New Car! :)

I've found with this forum, and having been here less than 6 months that ALWAYS someone will poo-poo your choice of car, WITHOUT FAIL. no one seems to realise that car ownership and picking one can be a very personal thing and some people take such criticism very seriously.

OCUK Motors recoils in shock at the revelation that not all people have the same opinion.

If you "take such criticism seriously" you shouldnt be posting your latest purchase for critique on any forum, let alone a brutally honest one such as this.

Like most I don't want motors to turn into a namby pamby back-slapping extravaganza, but at the same time, theres no need to be rude.

Re: the OP's car, it's definitely not what i'd buy for £6k but its certainly not a bad price, and as long as he's happy then great :)

IMO any car that someone buys, unless it's a total rust bucket that someone has been ripped off by an unscrupulous dodgy back street dealer, should be met with a 'nice car' or 'Good choice'. just IMO!

That isn't how discussion works

Anyway, glad you like your car OP. It'll be a definite step up from your Corsa so enjoy it.

Agreed :)

I don't think people should is back slapped if there choice of car is poor, but then again there is no need to be rude about it either. Currently the thread has been fairly civil, with people who don't like the car saying so but not being rude (as it should be).

Personally, I quite like the look of it but it's not what I'd spend £6k on. But if the OP is happy with it then that's really all that matters, and I hope it gives him trouble free motoring :)

Strap on a pair, love.

Thanks guys, a lot friendlier than I expected considering I know a Vauxhall isn't very desirable to many of you :p

Nice buy, not what I'd spend 6k on personally but I do agree that the difference between these and the Focus is so minimal I'd go with my gut. Can't argue with 6k for an 07 plate either!

Hate how much plastic there is on the dash centre, the doors and how rattly the engine sounds but they are reliable and relatively good looking.

Better than what I have at the moment and at least it's not a clio from carcraft:)

To all those who keep saying "Its not what I'd spend 6k on"....

What would you spend 6k on instead?

@OP - Looks smart. Always liked the look of 3 door astra's and that has pretty low miles for its age so a decent price.

When you put it like that, I see why people are saying an astra isn't where they would drop 6k. Suppose it depends on what you are looking for and what you can afford to run.

Sucks being under 25!!

I bought the 530i at 22, it would have been 21 but I'm so ridiculously slow at finding cars :p

3 years ago I would have gone for something like that, nowadays it'd be on something more interesting with a bit of poke.

Well I don't like the Astra, but I cant argue with this, good buy...

It cost me £1000 to insure at 22. I am now 26.
I'm going to go run a quote on me being 22 to insure a 530i, i'm interested to see the result. My postcode isn't to bad..

I do hope we are not going to have a big argument about 530i's v Astras, I'm not actually saying he should have, I was simply asked what I'd buy with the money :p
