Hi. I sold a laptop over a week ago to someone, he paid via paypal and collected. has just text me now to say its constantly rebooting and not working,
obviously im not a business, and have withdrawn the cash. It was working etc and I took pic before it left.

I dont know what my rights and ebays set answers on its website is all a bit confusing.
he has txt to ask my address to return to and wants me to give him a refund.

views whats my rights ? do I have to ? how do i play it, go through paypal?

Go through paypal, defend it to the hilt but be prepared for paypal to side with him and refund him and then come after you for the money.

Have a go at fixing it for him, otherwise it's a refund job. If he puts a claim through Paypal they will ask you for a tracking number and when you can't supply one, he wins.

Check the serial numbers. If you don't have them you could be up a particularly malodorous channel with no ready means of propulsion.

He could have installed a dodgy driver or a piece of software which is causing it to re-boot, if it is, nothing to do with you.

you are not a shop?

Surely if he collected it he would have your address? I would never let anyone collect after they pay with paypal. They can get there money back saying the account was hacked and your left with nothing.

Last I heard ebay/paypal don't care much in cases where the buyer has collected and usually take the stance "if you took it home then you were happy with the item".

You need to ask him if he has attempted installing any software after purchase. If he does, what concern is it of yours?
Obviously, it's worth explaining this in a very tactful manner!
I wouldn't have thought free technical support was part of the deal....

Paypal will refund the buyer, most likely. Check the Paypal/Ebay T&Cs. They have the right to take that money (the money they spent to refund the buyer) from your PP account, without your knowledge or approval.
