i've always wondered what would happen if you filled a washing machine with diet coke, and grinded up a load of mento's to use as washing powder....

Open the coin trap door if there is one. There will either be a small latch you can pull that will release the door, or a tube with a tap that you can drain the machine with.

Then you need a crowbar and a friend to video you

Isnt Hotpoints Standard Warranty 5 year parts 1 year labour? If so might be cheaper to get it fixed instead of buy a new one...

Bosch are the only decent brand left

a control board alone (most common thing to go) on hotpoint/indesit costs over £100
I recall from when mine went .....I just bought a new Bosch instead.

advise was given to buy Bosch from white goods forums and the local repair man.

Seems you need to have registered the machine with them to activate the 5 year parts guarantee. Plus they will charge you the labour themselves so no DIY with free parts.

Miele are good yes, but you can't get one for £200.

But you can get a second hand (reconditioned one) for half that. I got mine for £90 and it's been perfect so far. Actually washes really well too If it lasts even just 2 years (I'm expecting 4-5) then it works out a fraction of the price of a normal machine.
