Do we have any online poker players on here?

Would just like to know whether or not you use those poker calculators?

Edit - Would also like to make this a general discussion thread about online poker

Yes, I play online poker, and no, I don't use any calculators. I'd rather learn all the odds and everything myself as I hope to move to live poker at some point, so it's better to learn it myself sooner rather than later.

ps, wrong forum?

Guess you're right. I've seen a few online (in youtube vids).. Seem pretty popular.

I've been playing online for a couple years now. Been okay without one.

As for playing live.... I hope you have nerves of steel :D

Can someone please move this to the correct forum?

Heh, that's why I want to move to live play, to see how well I cope. It's easy online as you can get dealt pocket Aces and let yourself have a smile, it'll be much harder in person to remain calm and play them properly. Should be fun either way :D

Trust me I first played live last year at a casino in London. I was dropping bricks. Palms wet..... Feet tapping lol!

It was at that moment I realised I was more suited to online play. Most of the opponents online are so trigger happy its unreal. So easy to lure them into a bad outcome!

Rarely get that online... People who are prepared to mix things up. I like this!

Its mean I can play with hands that most would fold!

Don't we have a huge poker thread?

I play online at Fulltilt but try and stick to live because I'm much better at it.

Have played literally hundreds of thousands of hands online, for the first eighteen months I won, probably about £1500 up... then for the next three years I was losing, probably down about £1500. so I gave it another year, lost about another £500, and gave up online poker.

Never used the odds calculators, because to be fair the only numbers you need to know are how many outs you have, and therefore what your probability of hitting one of them is. Not hard to learn.

My advice to anybody who plays online and wants to play live is to go for it. Live is so much more fun, much less boring, and fairer. Online is riddled with teams of players colluding, live is not.

Hello gang. This thread popped up in my Google alerts so I hope you don't mind me dropping in.

Poker calculators do not teach you anything really, at least things you should now know already. Think of them the same as you would a math calculator. You could really survive without one if you had to, but what's the point?

It's nice to say you would rather do everything yourself, but ALL serious players use some kind of poker software that includes profiling and odds. The main reason for this is multi-tabling. Most profitable players play several (even many) tables at the same time, so when it's their turn on any particular table, a poker calculator gives all the information they need to make instantaneous decisions. That may be odds information, but also, and more importantly profiling data on their opponent. That type of data often sways a decision 180 degrees. If you don't have that data, you simply cannot make profits long term in online poker.

I might also point out about those looking to move "UP" to live games should be looking to do it only for the experience and excitement, but NOT as a way to replace playing poker online. You cannot possibly make as much playing live poker due to a significantly slower deal and the limitation of playing only one table at a time. There IS a reason the PRO players play online too, and you just read it here!

If you want to learn more using such software, you can find my poker calculator videos on Youtube under "Turtleknife".

I used to multi 12 tables at a time. Its no surprise I don't often play anymore...too much of a good thing and all that!

Nearly forgot about this thread.

I'd like to use this to discuss strategy and general online poker experiences.

Here is a question for you.

-Tourny has just started
-Blinds are 10/20
-You are given KK outside of blinds
-Player just after the big blind raises to 40
-The next player raises to 80
-Players in the blinds call
-I raise all on 1,500

Honest answers, would you have done the same?

No.

Maybe, just maybe, if it was the first hand I would've done this because in some low stakes tournies you see people doing this, and it could look like you were doing this.

But, in reality. You didn't say what the guy "just after the BB" did. But it doesn't make sense to me, so I'm going to assume you're him.

If correct, by the time it comes round to you, there is 280 in the pot. Here, I would be raising to ~550. This gives your opponents some fold equity if should they decide to come over the top (we know they have 0). But, the shove isn't that bad of a play.

Honest answers, would you have done the same?

Thanks for responding.

I said that the person just after the big blind raised to 40. the person after that raised to 80. I then went all in.

Two people called. One with A2 and the other with A7. Was drawing good until an Ace showed up on the River.

Guess that what I get..... people will play with anything in small stakes poker.

In poker terms this is UTG opening a pot, UTG+1 then 3bets making the pot 150.... then you 4bet all-in.

With KK you should be willing to lead the betting for sure. I am not sure how much value you get by shoving here, because you are kind of "telegraphing" your hand and will get many smaller pairs to fold preflop - something you DON'T want. (Since you did get two callers, I would say that is fortunate for you.)

I would normally 4bet the pot (unless Turbo or RUSH game) making it about 200-240. If someone re-raises you, then call.

Yep.... fortunate enough to find two players who have a Ace (with SH** kickers) lol..... Only for them to get their Ace on the river.
