LOLFacebook! Anyone bored already?

They came first for the Lolfacebookers,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Facebooker.

Then they came for the Cool story bros,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a cool bro.

Then they came for the Jesus pics,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a bored conservative voting bloke.

Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

lol cool poem bro

lol poemtellingcoolstoryaboutfacebookerswithoutpancake bro.

i think hes not having a go i think it could cause some people not to post amusing things just incase of a infraction.

it could go both ways

stop some things which are annoying and works out better.
stops people posting things which are funny making forums boring and less people come on.

poll time ;)

I don't think so, unless you're going to be ultra sensitive about it but that's down to you.

I suppose if your idea of humour is spamming the same tired joke everywhere you can think of, then yes it might but otherwise, just making funny posts is fine as far as i'm reading things.

Really? So you think it's ok for the same members to constantly make the same single word posts over and over again?

Definitely not. there are certainly members on here that do that and it is annoying, and if infractions are limited to repeat offenders who post 'spam' then fine. But then that opens up the question of what exactly constitutes spam, and how long is a fresh meme or forum crazy allowed to be popular before it's considered spam? And how do we know when that point is reached to avoid infractions? It's a tricky situation anyway.
Like I say I don't see any problems with modding on this forum, but debates about online communities fascinate me because they are so complex and on the whole so unlike real life society/communities.

I'm sure like other things that have been banned before, such as that jesus picture, an announcement would be made.

At the moment it's only really a couple of members that are doing it on a regular basis and I think they're now aware that it's getting a little tiresome.

Am I making sense?

I only do it as I find the same old Facebook Threads tiresome, same as others find the 'Spec Me..', the 'What Watch..', the 'PayPal/Ebay/DPD' the 'Weather..' the 'TVLicense..' or whatever keeps popping up constantly, it's no different to any of those.

Other than it has a purpose, they might be repetitive. But at least they have a point.
Where as Lolfacebook, smash that pasty and every other tiresome ocuk meme.
Is just pointless spammage, which isn't even funny.

I use Facebook and think it's pretty good but that doesn't stop me thinking 'reinstall facebook' is hilarious :p It's great when someone bites.

So just ignore them rather than try and actively make life more difficult for the people who are interested?

It's easy enough to see what it is usually, so what compels you to enter such a thread just to try and ruin it for everyone else?

We all have different tastes, it would be a nightmare if everyone attempted to trash every thread not of interest to them.

That's completely subjective though isn't it? Especially with the 'smash her pasty' thing, there are still enough individual members post it in a lot of threads that a certain percentage of the user base must still find it amusing to some degree.
And who are you (or me) to say what's funny and what is now tiresome and old? Just because you have lost interest in it everyone else has to feel the same? I'm not speaking to you directly here, but to anyone in this thread who wants their individual niggles, demands and opinions to be treated like they matter.

Yes totally, as long as people are clearly told when the mods have decided something has gone on too long or now constitutes spam then fine. On wider matters of what could be taken as offensive or construed to be derogatory then I still think it's an incredibly fine line. Take the 'two ***** don't make a right' poster I mentioned earlier, it was removed, yes some people might have found it offensive but an equal number of people might have found it humorous. Considering we have had threads on here discussing the N word, and numerous other hot potatoes, I find it hard to discern the criteria under which the mods operate. But then it's under your individual discretion anyway, which means it's really what the mods find funny or offensive and not the community, unless the mods take action solely if a post is reported and flagged by a single member as offensive. We just don't know.
Like I say I'm just discussing this because I find it interesting, not because I have a problem with the way the forums run, or even believe there is a problem.

I don;t think it matters if a few people still find it funny, when it is in every third post it just becomes annoying and spammage. Yes GD is not the most sensible place and nore should it be. but there should be a limit on it.

It cannot be seen as trashing anything, it makes no sense, it is not an attack of any kind it's simply a stupid word, like pancake.

Funny how one inane and spammy single word is accepted (I wonder who created it? the Mods maybe? ;)) And yet another much less spammed one is causing problems, and yes, they are both as pointless and unfunny as each other.

Well it can be, as it's used in an attempt to ruin threads.

You completely avoided the question though, what compels you to do it? It's a lot easier to ignore a thread you don't like than it is for others to try and participate in a thread whilst ignoring all the people attempting to ruin it.

Pancake came from the pic of hamster with a pancake on it's head, didn't it?
Which was not started by a mod :p

I think you'd be hard pushed to link any thread here in which this is true. Usually with these things the first few posts can be a spammed meme and the thread settles down into a proper discussing or whatever the focus was, either that or the meme gets reinvented and changed/shopped into something else for continued humour.
Sure those first few posts might be completely superfluous, but what's easier, you moving your eyes six inches further down your monitor or the mods having to wade in and hand out infractions which people inevitably resent?

I can't believe that it offends you so much you have to make a thread about it ¬_¬'

I'm still not sure why the "Jesus pic" is banned - I can't understand it when people get so uptight about mundane things like that :p

Fair enough, I'm not going to argue about it because that's pretty much pointless but what I would say is that I don't think threads like these are a good indicator of the overall feeling of the members that frequent GD, the minority are always the most vocal and I think that's definitely true where this discussion is concerned.
My guess is the majority of GD users will scroll past meme's they find boring without giving them much thought and have a laugh at any new, humorous meme's that arise. I think threads like this are mainly just to placate the few people who believe themselves to be 'more important' because they post more often or spend more time in GD than the average member, or who are simply more opinionated. Again I'm not trying to insult or imply anything here, just having a debate. In which case the thread itself is a cathartic release for their frustrations and once they have voiced their opinions, further action is probably irrelevant because they feel that 'they have been heard by the Dons'.
If the Dons hardly did any modding at all in GD I suspect things would be much the same as they are now.
