HD5850 and HD5830 Crossfire

hi,

I just got an XFX HD5830 (i won @ xfx) and when i'm pairing it with my 5850, i am getting half the performance of my 5850 and some random crashes.

Can anyone help pls? I'm using 10.10

NFS Hot Pursuit :
55FPS HD5850
21FPS HD5850 + HD5830

ohh and btw, does it makes any difference if i'm using 1 or 2 crossfire bridges?

Crossfire Bridge don't matter, I think crossfire will make the best card as slow as the slowest card in your system... and the crashes I don't have a clue about.

sell the 5830 then buy another 5850

Because your 5850 got dragged down to 5830 speed, and Crossfire 5830 could perform WORSE than a single 5850 if the game has poor scaling with crossfire.

you shouldn't have performance that low even if they were bought down to 5830 xfire levels and even 1 5830 dosn't have that bad performance

could be 2 things.

1. power issue

2. driver problem

try 10.11 or 10.10e driver and install the 10.11 cap4 crossfire profile

LOL you do know the 5830 is faster than the 5850, right.

also im sure crossfire doesn't match speeds now?

i wouldn't mind finding a answer to this.

no it's not, hence 5830.

5830 has less SP than the 5850.

yes the 5850 has more sp but slower frequency.

the 5830 isn't faster but it still shouldn't perform that low even if the scaling was bad the performance shouldn't go below a single 5830 surely :confused:

i'll try that.

power can't be the issue. i have a coolermaster 850w. i'm pretty sure they do not use that much power lol.

also, i was using 10.11 before downgrading to 10.10 as i thought it may be the driver.

what is cap4?

5850 performances faster than a 5830.

but that shouldn't make much different when crossfiring a 5850 with a 5830.

afew years ago i crossfired a 2600 pro with a 2600 xt without issues.

clarity of words is needed here.

5850 performs better than the 5830.

in terms of speeds the 5830 has a faster core clock.

but yes as a possible answer to the problem this is no uncommon. google may have a answer.

Speed is measured by taking the amount of something completed and the time it took. More stuff done/less time = faster.

5850 is faster.

Try installing the driver to the single 5830, and then add the 5850. That worked for one person.

Of cource it is, it can process more frames in any second than a 5830 = faster.
