E3 Trailer

New trailer just out

While the trailer doesn't show any new gameplay footage, live action sequences suggest the new game will be receiving of additions. Previous Forza games have shipped without certain features or cars shown in trailers, but if the footage is to be believed Forza 4 will include weather effects, night driving, rallying and multiple road surface types.

It'll also include Top Gear content, which we hope will mean you can drive the Test Track in a Reasonably Priced Car.

Looking good

I hope they concentrate on what genuine racing fans are wanting and don't put too much emphasis on the Kinect nonsense.

Won't happen though, it'll all be dumbed down Kinect nonsense.
If they can, they'll find ways to shoehorn more payable DLC in there also.

Sounds good, although in light of the last 2-3 years, I'm not going to get drawn into any hype from the mainly live video teaser they've shown..

the GT40 does look like a new highly detailed car walkaround thing (obviously kinect enhanced), the screen shots shown by T10 are 1920*1080, I wonder if just having a 1 car showcase, they could do this at 1080p 30fps?? That would be quite nice from a 'technical point of view'..

Since Rally is in the video, and a T10 blog mentioned going to a rally school, It's safe to say that Rally is in, and lots of nightime/dusk shots show Night is in in some form..

There is a qiuck fleeting glance of a Historic F1 car, so perhaps that's a hint, or just a nice 'cut scene' with a car that has a number 4 on it, who knows..

The GT40 footage is kind of in game, a more accurate description would be 'in engine', it's part of the Kinect walkaround thingy and is rendered in real time. Of course the actual racing gameplay won't look as good, but it shows where they are going with model detail etc :)

My guess is Kinect will be used for optional challenges in the game, like the overtaking challenge in the E3 footage, but the rest of the game will of course be playable with a pad/wheel. I'd like to see the kinect used for head-tracking too.

Rallying, night/day cycles and weather sound good. FM3 is my most played game, really looking forward to it

No it really won't, same was said last game about one button controls, rewinds etc, but they still gave hardcore racers what they wanted. Kincect won't change things.

T10 have a great physics engine already they are not going to throw that away and start again.

I'm guessing they probably have the Kinect stuff already done and is probably only taking 3-4% of the development power/time with help from Microsoft (they seriously want some Kinect titles). So I don't think there is much to worry about in that department :)

I haven't got many requests for the game apart from the weather effects/night driving new tracks etc as IMO it will be a more enjoyable experience than GT5 (currently is) due to game design that isn't based in 1998 :p

No doubt Turn 10 will do plenty of GT bashing come E3 which is always cringe worthy, play nice game devs! Us fans love racing games and couldn't care less about branding.

why are we all assuming that the game will have kinect built-in? i'd like to think that the kinect probably won't be in forza 4 and infact the kinect driving game would be a seperate game, anyway it was hardly going to effect the normal pad/wheel gamers at all anyway having it built-in as it would be easily turned off.
i'd imagine if kinect was put into forza 4 it would have probably been at microsofts request. as i can imagine turn 10 themselves would find it strenuous to hold their arms up for a 8 minutes race nevermind a hour endurance...

Any mention of removing the autosteer you cant switch off, that kinda annoyed me on FM3, does look good though.

This never seemed to bother me as much as others, so I did a bit of a experiment with it, and posted the results here,

The bottom line, on inspecting in slow motion what is occuring, it's obvious that what people thought was some uber assist really isn't anything of the sort, as it isn't actually doing anything to help you, it seemed no one actually checked that a bit of high frequency oscillation shown in the telemetry doesn't actually seem to counter-act anything at all when you look at what the car is doing..

The reason cars handle as they do in Forza is quite easy to explain, the grip levels of the tyres (tractive grip) is quite high (a tad more then real life ;)) and the 'turn in' of the cars is quite soft, you struggle to create the inertial rotation that starts snap oversteer, and especially if you try and constantly pendulate the car, it's the vastly dominant reason it's quite hard to keep it pendulating.

Just look at the video, using that car/track, where grip levels are ludicrously low, the cars are a handful to say the least..

All T10 need to do is tweak the engine a little, and get some more 'expected' grip levels (which are probably slightly lower then real life) and they'll have the much sought after 'entertainment' factor that is nice to have.

They said it on their forums, in a podcast, and even the Press release has something about it
Press Release said:
The ground-breaking Forza Motorsport series will return to Xbox 360 in fall 2011, featuring support for Kinect as well as the classic controls you’ve come to expect from the Forza series

So when people say they are sure it'll be OK, it's not just on a whim of optimism.. :)

Not gonna get my hopes up for Forza 4...I don't intend on buying Kinect and I have a feeling it'll ruin the feel of the game.
