Best £500 throw away car....

Anything really, an old volvo would be great, a mondeo, old carina or avensis ( if within price range), mazda 636, etc... Just filter by price and pick one that is in good nick mechanically and the one with the most options...

We got a BMW E36 318i for our Rust to Rome trip, it was just about flawless. Gutted that it was left in Rome as it was so much cheaper/quicker to fly home. Would get one as a second car any day.

I bought a 306 D turbo for £400 as a run-around whilst i was doing up cars. Damn thing lasted 3 years and was still going strong. It had Avtur in the fuel tank, Bio diesel and even 5 litres of untreated chip oil by a very drunk mate and it never skipped a beat. I gave it away in the end...

Had a look for sub £500 stuff on ebay near me, anyone want to buy a pile of snow?

wonder if the convertible part of it is essentially an igloo, it'd be perfect, when its warm enough for top down motoring the igloo melts!

e30 325i any day of the week! can be a lot of fun, i got one for £216 of ebay, did 60k miles in it, perfectly reliable, well up until the last couple of months of use! Changed a few suspention bushes for mot's, never had a failure to proceed. Last of the well built bmw's. The e36 build quality was dreadful in comparison, esp at launch!

406 SRI turbo, suprisingly fun and a bit of a sleeper especially if it has a tow bar and a bit more boost like mine :)

Heh i bought a Pug 106 for a little more than £500 three years ago with the intention of driving it till it died. It ain't died yet and i've nearly saved up enough cash to get my next car with no finance. Target is May next year. If it gets me through to there with no bills over £200 i'll be a happy chap.
