What made you go over to the dark side?

My brother got a white Macbook with the first Intel Core processor, towards the end of 2006 I expect. It was awesome! I got my 2GHz C2D Macbook Dec 2006. One of my most impressive computer experiences - 4 years on it's still as good as the day I got it, in fact better with Leopard now.

I've swapped out the 80GB 5400 HDD for a 320GB 7200 unit and had the keyboard and top surface replaced under warranty after it cracked a little.

After 4 years and some 700 cycles on the battery I'm amazed that it's still 98% health and gives me ~4hrs life. If/when the Macbook ever does die I'll replace it with another without hesitation. The 13" Macbook Pro today.

Same as Raymond. I was curious and had my eye on one. I was especially curious on why OSX general presence on the net was becoming vastly popular. I was already tired of Vista, and Win7 was just the 'same old' thing to me.

Needed a change, so in 2009 I bought a refurb uMacbook, and ended up with a rare higher spec model as a bonus, with a backlit keyboard. Fell in love with OSX in a week and prefer it to Win7 now, which my main pc uses.

because my laptop broke and that very same day someone had a ''selling my macbook'' status on facebook for a scamingly cheap price

i still cant believe how cheap it was now , cheaper than a netbook or same spec laptop and less than half of what i could have instantly sold it for on ebay.

due an upgrade soon but i cant justify the current 13" macbooks whatsoever and am praying for an i3/i5 update in the next couple of months

Using Macs and PCs isn't mutually exclusive as far as I'm concerned. I like messing around with different operating systems in general, so it was inevitable I'd end up with a Mac at some point. But it was the last of the current major operating systems I tried because of the high cost.

For years now I've run a desktop Windows box for the grunt and bang for buck and an Apple laptop for lightweight stuff. Best of both worlds for me.

My first Mac as basically an Impulse buy...

Id bought a Breitling Hercules ~£2k watch which developed a fault during my first week, so returned it for a full cash refund... This was in the Trafford Centre, on my way back to the car i was passing the Apple store, it was launch day of the 1st Gen Intel Dual-Dual Core Macpro, i went in and had a play, liked it and bought one. Never looked back.

I brought an iPhone 3G at the start of 2009 and after realizing how good some of the apps were on it I decided I wanted to have a go at making one myself. I never liked macs, but I had that mentality never having actually used one before. I brought a white macbook a few weeks later and loved it ever since, even if I never made a million pound making app on it :P

My first Mac was a first generation (non-intel) Mac Mini. I wanted a small system which I could hook up to the Midi ports on my digital piano and with the inclusion of GarageBand the Mac seemed a good idea for this.

That machine has now been replaced with a 2009 Intel Mac Mini which I'm generally happy with.

I've haven't completely switched though, I do still have various non-Mac systems at home that I use as well.

Bought a Macbook Pro during my 2nd year of uni, think it was £1100 second hand from someone on here!

I was just fed up of PCs breaking all the time on me. I've built an unreal amount of computers before so I thought I'd just try a mac. Bought it, loved it, then bought a PC so I could play games and use 3D Studio Max at uni. Had that beast watercooled in my final year but finally sold off all the parts and got a Mac Pro which after 2 years is still faster than any other machine I'e used, love it!

Went to University where, as part of my course (BSc (Hons) Sound Technology and MSc Advanced Audio Engineering) I had to use Macs in the studio.

Mate got given a brand new iMac G5 because of his dyslexia, and after using it for a few hours I was hooked. Bought myself one a month later and never looked back. Kept my Shuttle SFF gaming PC for a year and stopped purchasing upgrades around the time Half Life 2 was launched.

Sold the parts, upgraded the iMac to an Intel iMac and went from there. Have owned every Mac since (apart from the MacBook Air).

Currently own a Mac Mini as I've sold all my systems to pay towards the new house build :)

I prefer OS X over Windows, although I use both on a day to day basis.

Wanted mac for years, ever since using them in 1993 and through out the 90s. Got a PC in 95 after having a Speccy and an ST. Fast forward to 2010 after having multiple PCs and other bits of equipments. In that time could never justify a price of the mac when upgrading PC was so cheap in comparison. Now, small house, loads of half broken and semi usuable PCs a deal was struck - I can blow 2 grand on a mac if I get rid of all the PC clutter. Did it and haven't looked back. Still have a PC laptop, and a linux server, though.

Bought my iMac as I wanted to look at a new OS and gain experience. Also, was looking at a new monitor for my PC and after testing the iMac decided I could kill two birds with one stone.
I still have my Windows PC which I use occasionally as it is more powerful for some tasks. On the whole, happy with OSX and would just say it is different rather than particularly better. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Think I need to learn keyboard shortcuts more though to get the best out of the Mac.

when i got my Iphone 3G , then i got a MacBook for Xmas , then Iphone 3GS , then Airport Extreme router.

Next Apple purchase might be another MacBook or a iPad 2 .. iMac ..

I've been an Apple user since the Mac Classic way back in 1990. I've had an LC, a Quadra, an original iMac, an iLamp (the first flat panel iMac) and a couple of Mac laptops during my time.

I now have a 27" iMac & the wife has a MacBook. There are three iPhones in the house and one 3G iPad. Oh and a 2nd Gen Apple TV and a AirPort Extreme...

Guess we are converts to the "dark side" :D

I'm not planning to go back to a PC any time soon. I work with them!

Logic Studio
Final Cut Studio

Two very large reasons for me alone.

Oh yeah I forgot about Final Cut Studio.

I'm a filmmaker so my 27" i5 which I very recently bought will come in very handy. I'm actually just in the middle of installing Final Cut Studio now.

It was not only the software and the software to hardware efficiency that was attractive, but the realibility. I still love my PC and use it for gaming. If my PC dies and takes the games with it, it's an inconvenience. But if the PC dies and takes a current project with it, it's hell.

It's the install from Hell. Something like 47GB or so on...

Agreed. I don't mind Windows (I use Windows 7 at work) but I rely on OS X and Apple hardware at home...

Im currently fighting urges to get an interest free credit card and just buying a 27", SO want one :/ it would be ace for my photography work which I do day in day out all the time, but my quad core Q6600@ 3.5ghz with 8gb ram is hardly a slouch and doesnt hold me back, also my HP 2475 24" monitor is excellent quality *sigh, if only I had more moneys
