Ordered a new MBA last week with delivery scheduled for today.

Last update on UPS tracking shows it as being at East Midlands airport this morning.

I called Apple to check and was told I'd get it today.

So I call UPS and get told they have no idea where it is and to just wait and see if it comes but it might be anytime this week.

So another call to Apple - They will ask UPS to put a trace on it but this can take 72 hours. If they deem it to be lost then its another 10-15 day wait for a shipment from China.

Rather annoyed at the moment, I just want my MBA :(

mail is still delayed from the snow... i would expect it in the next few days if it was only due today

UPS do know where it is , it is between the airport and your house :p i would expect the tracking to update at the end of today when it has either been scanned by a sorting office or scanned by a driver. or if theyre incredibly busy it may not even get scanned at all

i dont really know what else you where expecting ?

I've paid over a grand for something - I expect them to be able to know where it is - not just be told to hope for the best :p

Snow or not - They should be able to give some reasonable answer.

dunno why apple said your get it today, sounds like their trying to keep face there, it has nothing to do with them now its all down to the delivery firm in question, putting a trace on it is pointless - thats not gonna change anything.

its at the airport as ups quote, so that's where it is. you wont get it today...maybe tomorrow. ups wont know where it is exactly until its scanned again at which point you will be updated.

they haven't lost your parcel at all, i think your being a little OTT here.

I've wasted a days holiday to wait for it. Hardly being OTT, granted its probably not lost but I'm allowed to be annoyed - I was my new mac!

Be annoyed with the weather not the delivery people - Im sure they are doing their best and youre not the only one disappointed. Why do people throw a childish tantrum when a product theyve ordered gets delayed especially in the weather we are having...

I'm with disfunktion, it's not difficult to manage expectations and in my experience couriers/royal fail etc are without exception completely awful at doing the only thing they are expected to do with any degree of enthusiasm. A company like UPS should know where something is, if they don't then their reason for existing is rather questionable.

Saying "sorry the weather has screwed everything, we know where it is but you're in a backlog" is different to "dunno....... sir? are you still there? I said dunno"

UPS tried to collect something from my place of work 4 times last week and despite being given ridiculous detailed instructions with mobile numbers and numerous contacts to ask for they kept going to the wrong place over and over again.. I asked why nobody had called the number I gave them and they said "we don't give them mobiles, they don't have to call you".. why ask for the number then?

The idea of whatever is being delivered being important to someone has clearly worn off these people.

A childish tantrum? Guys get a grip here - You would all be exactly the same if you were in my boat. Its all well and good being a keyboard warrior on here and saying 'But it was the weather!'.

If you had spoken to the people at UPS today then you would have been as annoyed as I am.

They should know what they are doing and at least be able to tell me where in the system my item is - Its a £1000+ item not a piece of mail sent with Royal Mail.

It has now magically reappeared on the tracking details so I'll have to waste another day waiting for it to arrive. If they had been able to tell me this during the day then I could have arranged for it to be sent to a different address.

Actually fair point - I take it back, though I would have prepared myself for the worst considering the back logs reported by a lot of websites/couriers...

Christmas presents Ive ordered have been delayed, because of this, but what can you do . Im more worried that they will get here intact than the delay itself. Ive not expected anything but the bare minimum service from any courier service - them not being sure and telling you this is probably as useful as not being sure and telling you a lie...

but you knew where the item was - at the airport! you didnt need anyone to tell you that really, it wasnt delayed as apple dont give actual delivery dates.

i have an ipad that is due to ship today, the last tracker was at the dispatch point, im not worried or kicking up a fuss it will arrive when it arrives.

anyway apple state that the delivery date is only an ESTIMATE and not ACTUAL so i really dont see your problem

i can understand that your new found purchase perhaps hasnt arrived as early as you would have liked, but claiming its 'lost' and ups are rubbish is a bit far fetched and actually quite unfair.

Really?

So thats why today it shows as being in Sheffield and out for delivery - but upon calling UPS to check this I am told its not out for delivery and again they are unsure where it is but its in the system and it 'might' now arrive tomorrow.

Had mine delivered on Monday, it had a bogus 'OUT FOR DELIVERY' on Friday, my bet is you'll see it tomorrow at the latest:
Code:
DEWSBURY, GB 13/12/2010 14:33 DELIVERED
                13/12/2010 3:54 OUT FOR DELIVERY
DEWSBURY, GB 10/12/2010 8:09 OUT FOR DELIVERY
	        10/12/2010 7:18 ARRIVAL SCAN
EAST MIDLANDS AIRPOR, GB 10/12/2010 5:20 DEPARTURE SCAN
	        10/12/2010 3:46 ARRIVAL SCAN

If it's any consolation it turns out the MBA is rubbish anyway ;)

I don't see why you would have taken a day off work when the last update was 'At the Airport', I think we all know that the airport stage is the longest stage of the journey because it has to pass through customs.

It's only once it's been released back to UPS and it's on it's way to the depot that you can gauge when you might get it.

You're not being OTT. These guys have no idea how to get a package delivered on time.

CROYDON, GB 16/12/2010 10:19 THE PACKAGE WAS NOT DISPATCHED / DELIVERY RESCHEDULED
16/12/2010 7:08 OUT FOR DELIVERY
CROYDON, GB 15/12/2010 18:19 THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY
15/12/2010 6:22 OUT FOR DELIVERY
CROYDON, GB 14/12/2010 18:40 DELIVERY RESCHEDULED
14/12/2010 18:26 THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY
14/12/2010 7:33 OUT FOR DELIVERY
CROYDON, GB 13/12/2010 18:58 THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY
13/12/2010 6:33 OUT FOR DELIVERY
CROYDON, GB 10/12/2010 10:41 THE PACKAGE WAS LEFT IN A UPS FACILITY / DELIVERY RESCHEDULED
10/12/2010 6:11 OUT FOR DELIVERY

All the data showing up on tracking is incorrect - I've just spoken to them and they are not scanning anything correctly due to 'high volume'.

Supposedly it will arrive today but we shall see.....

UPS are currently being awful. My parents run a freight broker, essentially collecting parcels from all the small businesses in the area and shipping them off via UPS. We get bulk discounts, and pass some of the savings on to the customers so we both save money.

For 12 years UPS have been great but the last week or so its been terrible. They aren't scanning packages properly, they are saying things are out for delivery, they've removed the 10:30 guarentee for express shipments without actually telling anyone, while still charging the express prices, and we can't get hold of anyone on our contact numbers.

I've got the same issues with these lot:

BARKING, GB 16/12/2010 18:04 THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY
BARKING, GB 15/12/2010 15:53 DESTINATION SCAN
15/12/2010 10:52 THE PACKAGE WAS LEFT IN A UPS FACILITY / DELIVERY RESCHEDULED
15/12/2010 6:11 ARRIVAL SCAN
TAMWORTH, GB 15/12/2010 3:36 DEPARTURE SCAN
15/12/2010 2:46 ORIGIN SCAN
GB 14/12/2010 17:00 BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED

Doubt I'll get my HP tomorrow now due to the weather!
