...My choice of 3 different bus routes have been suspended for the day because of the snow. So i called up at 4.30pm to talk to them & explain even tho im not due in until 10pm. The manager (not my one) that answered the phone all he could say was how far you live i said 8 miles.....An he replied WALK IT!!!!!

I cant believe what he said, on a good day i think it would take about 2 n half hours to walk there but in this weather iv got no idea how long it would take!!

Plus if i walk in im not going to be full of energy to get on with my job.

Is everyone's work place this harsh if you cant make it in because of all the snow.

Health and Safety is the answer here! Tell them that walking to work in the snow represents a serious risk of injury.

Get a taxi/get a friend to drive you/walk/cycle/rollerblade.

The bus is not the be all and end all of transport, especially given how quickly they cancel them these days.

I've walked about 5 miles to get to work when I had no option. Sometimes you just have to man up.

Although, could you not get a bus most of the way then walk the last few miles?

A little harsh by your boss. 8 miles is a long way to go if the snow is really bad and the pavements are hard to walk on. I've walked 4 miles to work in a blizzard, it wasn't too bad. Just make sure you have a good pair of waterproof boots on and an extra pair of socks.

Starting work at 10pm on a Saturday night says Nightclub to me, if this is the case and you have no other way of getting there, tell the bloke you arent coming in, tell him to get someone else or get stuffed.

Screw walking 8 miles to earn about 30 quid

I wouldn't walk 8 miles, the same as most people wouldn't, including the ones who posted in here saying they would;) but i also wouldn't whine about it on the internet:p get a taxi booked!

 dont even start with that H&S ****

what happen to people just having a bit of ingenuity, or the ability to think for themselves, you didnt even need to speak to the boss, just work out another way to get to work, as people have said, taxi, cycle, walk, friend or whatever, this stikes me as a case of "oh a little adverse weather, i wonder if i can get time off work".

as doughnut says its your problem not his.
