Am going to have some cash to splash when I get back form my latest 6 month 'holiday' that hte government keeps sending me and was looking at replacing my current 5870 with a 6970.

Am reckoning that they will have come down in price by the time i get back in May too.

Currently, have not been able to get a stable system unless I stick with 10.4 drivers. Anything after that and i get flashy screen in Eyefinity and BSOD's and driver crashes all over the place.

What do peeps think of this move?

Have to say, I did think of going green, but the prospect of having to buy 2 cards to use my three monitor setup is keeping me in the red camp.
 
I've just received my 6970 today to replace my 5870. I'll let you know how it goes, though I'll need to setup my eyefinity monitors again. At moment one of them is in use elsewhere.

Did it come with a mini DP>normal DP adaptor or am i going to have to buy yet another adaptor to get my Eyefinity working?

6970 in most games you won't see much differance but in Dx11 games with tessilation you will see a nice improvement.

First thing I checked when the box arrived :p Mine came with the adaptor. I've no idea if all will do but I get the impression that's the case. For reference, here's the one I got:

Missed out on the this week only offer by 24 hours. Ah well :)

I won't be able to perform any testing until I get home from work and rebuild my system btw.
 
Work for the SAS? :p

Only real improvement is tessellation from 5870 to 6970 though + how about the green side? :)

At eyefinity resolutions the differences are actually a lot bigger. For 1920 and below though, I agree - it would be a pointless upgrade.

I wish. At least then I would be able to watch mor ethan 4 channels on the TV, get internet that isnt on a 256K connection, shared between 270 people and also get mail more than once a month, if I am lucky. Am deployed on a warship doing anti-piracy operations. Was out here in 09 between Beginning of April and end of December and now out here from Nov 10 till end of Apr 11. Bets bit is spending Christmas day at sea........oh yeah and missing my first wedding anniversary too.....:(

Games I mostly play are EVE, Dirt 2, F1 10 and the occassional FPS when i feel like killing things / blowing things up / general mayhem

Ryan3 - thought about Green, but as mentioned in OP, would need to get 2 cards to be able to keep my 3 monitors used, which is a no go.

Ahh :) GL my hubbys a RAF pilot i hardly see him either :( Gives me mroe time to raid on WOW though :D
 
Apologies for not posting anything last night. House was invaded by guests. I've got the card up and running with the 10.12rc3 drivers and will be setting up the third monitor tonight at some point to get some testing done.
 
I'm considering this same upgrade for 6000x1200 eyefinity. Actually have the card in my basket and am close to ordering. I was hoping the extra memory would make a difference.
