Look at those results, a 1GHz clocked HD6850 and an overclocked HD5850...

With newer games coming and the fact the 6850 is a great clocker its a clear winner over the redundant 5850.

Overclocking is a moot point because the 5850 can be easily overclocked as well.

Sure it might scale well but we are talking single card here.

Lower clocked 950 core 5850 is faster than the 1000 core 6850, yeah 5850 all the way.

Well you're obviously being biased.
The 6850 is clocked higher than a 5850.
5850's also clock to about the same clock speed.
If the 5850 at a lower clock speed is faster, then at the same, or higher clock speed, it's going to be even faster than it.

I'd argue the 5850 was just below 6870 performance, and the 6850 was in-between a 5830-5850.

I'm not I couldn't care its a GFX card. No emotion at all.

Fact is a 6850 with its improved power consumption, cooler overclockable core easy getting 1ghz and tessellation 3D and the DP 1.2 make it a worthy buy over the dead 5850.

The gap aint big enough to lose out on these features that will be important in tomorrows games.

But the 5850 is also a great clocker. I still don't see your point. Even if there was a new game that made use of the 6850s better tessellation performance, it would be marginally better than a 5850 which is cheaper to get anyway!

The 6850's overclocking percentage is LESS than that of a 5850, and the 5850 already performs faster to boot.

The fact is, it's not just a few FPS. The 5850 might as well be in a league ahead.

the 6000 series 3D features are also supported on 5000 cards - lots of reviews of the 6000 cards miss that.
The better crossfire scaling only matters if you have two of them.
The better tesselation means that in games that aren't out yet, the 6850 might perform as well as the 5850 - but we don;t know. In all other cases, the 5850 is better.

There aren't any monitors supporting DP 1.2 yet, so that is only a benefit if the OP plans to buy 2 or more new monitors to run simultaneously from the same port, some time in the future when those monitors actually appear, OR plans to run a single monitor with a resolution so high (double that of 1920x1200, say), that it will bring the graphic card to its knees.
So the DP benefit seems arguable.

What we're left with is, the 5850 is a superior card to the 6850 right now, and likely will remain so for as long as it lasts.
