I have had a go at overclocking the HIS 6950 with MSI Afterburner.

The most I can get up to and be stable is 880MHz on the core clock and 1450 MHz on the memory clock. Max temp was 65C with custom fan profile but the fan never went above 40% so still nice and quiet.

The reason I couldn't go higher wasn't the fact I could see artifacts or a complete GPU crash, but when i did set the clocks higher the graphic driver failed, reset to desktop and then it recovered. Could this be a driver issue or a failsafe?

How has anyone else got on with one of these?

This cards failed at being 6970. Hence they will NOT do 880mhz or over without some serious JUICE.
We are yet to see how they do with some extra volts.
My feeling is they will be a bit meh, considering the power tune thingy, the heat these baby's generate and the noise of these blasted coolers.

I'm probably seeing it from a different angle seeing as I came from a 4870x2. The 4870x2 idled at 72C and the fan was ridiculously loud all the time. In comparison my 6950 is great! :)

Yeah 6950 is an excellent card for the price. It's not much slower than a 6970 clock for clock and that's in 570/480 territory.
