Considering a car change in March-April next year and looking to spend upto 45k

But what 4WD system does the TT RS use, how well does it handle compared to an EVO X?

Right Ok last post on this subject.

I've been trying to find out for you, and apparently the TT RS uses a 4th Generation Haldex system. As found in the Insignia VXR, Skoda Yeti 4x4, Saab 9-3 Turbo X, And the Audi TTS.

I've read so many conflicting reports over the last half hour i havent a clue if this is true or not, but appears to be my best guess. Best sources i could find:

Surely the TT-RS has the same Haldex system as the other current VAG cars, ie A3, Golf, etc?

Pretty sure it does, albeit with a few modifications. Ive read nothing to indicate otherwise.

So is that system any good Fox? Or how does it compare to the EVO's S-AWC?

You dont want one of them TT's anyway, you want a beefy blokes car :)

Can people please stop spamming the thread with TTRS dross, I don't think gibbo wants to remove his man wand and buy a tampon dispenser!

Isn't the Z06 expensive at £45k? The Chevy website has a brand new one at $74k/£48k. Used ones on Auto trader start under $40k/£26k

How expensive is the importing process? Is it economically viable?

If I had £45k to spend on a car I'd be looking at the GTR, a fully loaded C2S, or the Z06. I imagine I finish up with the Porsche personnaly.

If I had £25k, and had to borrow the extra £20k to get to £45k, I'd probably decide that I didn't want to spend the extra unless I was sure it was going to be pretty bomb proof depreciation wise, which is unlikely at this level imo.

The TTRS is too new to not depreciate. The 355/360 is no daily drive, nor is the TVR liability.

That would be my choice, if I could use this as a bargaining chip...

I won't suggest any particular cars, but just a few thoughts on criteria... Are you sure you want a single "everyday" car? £45k on a second hand performance car is going to buy something that costs a lot if something goes wrong. OK, so general reliability will give you some idea of the risk, but something can always go wrong and take it off the road.

I'm sure you've done your budgeting, and I'm sure you know all about running costs, so I won't bother going there. However, there is also something else to consider, something I've been seriously considering for a while now. Where do you use all that performance?? If your roads are anything like these around here, you open it up on a backroad, cut nicely into a tight left hander and disappear up some horses backside, or suddenly find a bicyclist in your passenger seat. The roads around here are infested with bicyclists, horses, hikers and God knows what else, all standing around in the middle of the road as if it's a blooming car park.

For all the time I get to actually enjoy the power, I may as well be driving a Mondeo.

When I go to change mine (perhaps next year, it depends on the Scimitar project) I am now intending to spend a little on a cheap daily drive, and put something decent in the garage for trips to the 'ring and such.

I suppose it depends on if you have a garage available, but for £45k my thoughts would on something like a a Sagaris or a 997 C2S and, I dunno, an ST220 or something as a daily drive.
