Considering a car change in March-April next year and looking to spend upto 45k

Personally Gibbo based on your shortlist, I would have it down to either the Nissan GTR R35 or the TVR Sagaris. Two compltely different beasts. TVR as a challenge to you which you say you want. The Nissan more biast as an every day driver but that can still do everyting including going fast, all be it in a ore electronic and controlled way....perhaps you would say...less raw.

If I was spending money like you are, then I would feel I was cheating myself not buying something I was 100% happy with looks wise. On that basis all Porsches are out, the Corvette has a horrible rear and the Audi looks very bland. In terms of performance vs daily driver vs bills vs not too bad mpg, then maybe the GTR would also win there? I have a personal soft spot for TVRs as have always wanted one, but....I share your concerns over reliability but cannot back them up. Maybe TVR reliability is falsified and has a bad rep but is actually ok...might be worth asking some people in the know about TVRs.

Why wouldn't the GTR excite you? If you like the Evo as much as you claim to, then the GTR should knock your socks off?

If I had £45k to ***** on a car, my money would be on a 996 GT2 or GT3. A little over the age threshold but well under the mileage threshold for that money.

Sorry if I went M3 I'd get the best M3 in existence, a top notch M3 CSL, the E90 M3 just well I just don't want one.

FWIW, the last person I spoke to who had owned both claimed the E90 was faster and more capable than his CSL. Funnily enough, his last car was a 996 GT2 and his current is a GTR :)

Gibbo, If you're already looking for something to replace the Evo, I think you should look at something that going to really satisfy that lust for excitement. That you change between such incredible cars so regularly says to me that you're struggling to do so - but that doesn't suprise me, it's hard to satisfy a true adrenaline junkie with a road car :)

I'm going to suggest you look at a single seater of some kind to race. Something like a Formula Ford 2000 or similar will cost you under 10k, and potentially no more to race over a year than many of the supercars mentioned above would cost you in maintainance. Around a track it will be significantly quicker than most if not all of the above cars, but more importantly the extra element of competition and knowing you can push to and beyond your limits every time you step into it will give you a buzz that a road car never will.

That still leaves you £35k for a decent road car too!

I would say C2s but I am biased. As you've had a fair few lairy RWD cars I wouldnt bother with the C4S. Cost wise Ive had mine for close to 2 years old and I've spent £600 on a pair of rear tyres and ~£1000 a year on the OPC warrenty which has fixed a few things i.e. headlight washer jet, faultly bonnet/lid motor that caused battery to run flat, couple of rattles from the dashboard.

I didnt drive a C4S but from what I heard/read before I got mine you had to go that bit faster to get the same enjoyment - how true this is I dont know.

with regards to the rear engine/RWD going to kill you thing this is my first RWD car and touch wood, I haven't crashed yet. I think with sport mode engaged it lets the rear come out by around 30% before PSM kicks in. If you turn it off then it might well kill you but I cant see the need on the roads.

If you want a nicer sounding one then go for one with the sports exhaust.

I always thought that the NA 911's are very costly to modify if you want more power.

He dosent want a GT i dont know what that cars place is really, its just lost.

It's a totally different car to the run of the mill mazza's, it competes with the db9 and 599gtb, albeit a slightly cheaper variant.

I'm a massive fan of them after swapping my car for one for a few days

if you just want something bonkers then get a noble, that's and easy choice

Sorry not enough coffee i read that as 4200 there, sorry mate :)

But even that, its Ferrari running costs and getting used every day, i just wouldnt want to do that if money was any sort of object.

I would have to say Viper. Failing that corvette.

Interesting little nugget about the viper from wikipedia:
Car and Driver also tested the Viper's track performance, and managed a fast sub-3 minute lap time around Virginia International Raceway. The Viper's time, despite hot weather, was faster than the Corvette Z06, Ford GT, Nissan GTR, Porsche 911 Turbo, 911 GT3, and 911 GT2, Audi R8, and similar cars. According to Car and Driver and Motor Trend, the car's slightly-adjusted suspension setup and new differential gave it cornering ability as sharp as before with better control, feedback, and response.

viper!?

Have you ever sat in one, comically dire car, it has the transmission tunnel from an intercity 125 and subsequently two seats the size of a lolly pop sticks! They handle like a large strawberry jelly and arent actually that fast.

Truely run a mile from that marque!

sounds as fixed as those stupid japanese videos where a civic type r beats a veyron.

'slightly adjusted suspension' will mean they stuck a dodge viper sticker on a 458 fez :p

£45k is top limit, it doesn't mean he HAS to spend £45k all out on the car. :)

My point was more about putting all your eggs in one basket and trying to find a "does it all" car. One that you can drive every day, to the shops, to work, blah, blah, blah, and then drive like a nutter when you get the chance. I don't think that you get enough chances on our public roads to drive like that (I certainly don't) and was suggesting a solution of two cars. Something cheap but capable enough for the daily drive, and then something special for the track/road trips, etc.

Gibbo, trust me, you do not want a TVR as a daily driver. I did it for about 14 months or so with the Cerb, but I only live 15 minutes from work, had the wifes car if I needed it, and work is on a bus route anyway. If you bought a Sag as your only car, it would ruin your appreciation of the car. Even if it didn't break down (and they're not as bad as folk make out if looked after properly) you would find yourself choosing not to make certain journeys, or taking an alternative method of transport [i[just in case[/i]. If it ever lets you down, all you will hear will be "I told you so" from all the TVR naysayers. If it lets you down a second time, you'll get sick of it and wish you had bought a porka.

They're one of those worrying cars to own, where every flicker of the oil gauge, every clunk and every knock makes you worry about the state of the engine and whether it's all about to go up in a cloud of blue smoke.

However... as a second car.... ;)

Hi there

I know its a TT RS and its not a favourite here but a remap, plus downpipe, race cats, exhaust get these little pocket rockets in the 450BHP region and look at how one goes:-

Gotta give credit where due it completely surprises that tuned M5 to a point where it only starts to catch up what is probably well past 130mph......

Is it wrong to admit I like the looks. :$

Still question is out on how well do they handle, but that aside running cost seem cheap, £225 per year tax, upto 35MPH and as less than a year old Audi warranty, it would just take buying very very well to reduce depreciation.
