Oh great - woken up this morning to find no heating or hot water, and the boiler is as dead as a... well, parrot...

Amazingly, our 'emergency cover' insurance tells us they will send a heating engineer around tomorrow, but on previous experience I doubt very much whether they will have the right part(s) to fit on the spot.

So, I'm off to buy some fan heaters (assuming anywhere has any in stock now).

Merry Christmas :(

Mine's been dead for two months while a new one is fit :-p Argos do a 2kw oil filled radiator for about 60£ and you can check stock of your local store on their website

If it makes you feel any better our washing machine died early this month.

Three engineers have been around, muttered and mm'd and aah'd a lot. They've replaced different sections and it still died yesterday. Even though we took out the best warranty care we can't get a replacement. So we have no washing machine, and are spending a fortune at the dry cleaners.

Had ours go once on Xmas Morning.

Luckily my Father had insurance and within an hour... on xmas morning there was a British Gas engineer around who fixed it!

Is it a condensing boiler?

The outlet on my condensing boiler froze up this week and tripped the fail safe switch, shutting off the whole thing. If it is this, it's not the end of the world and pretty easily fixable. Hope you get it sorted for tomorrow OP

Why is it always Christmas?

My boiler failed 3 years ago, the pump went so the o/h stat triped the whole sytem out.

Luckily we had an immersion and the family has a stock of emergency electric heaters so no real bother

Feel for you though

our gas pipe froze up 3 days ago, gas company came round the same day and got rid of the ice, since then we've been waiting for someone to come turn the gas back on.

sux to be us. :(

Is it a condensing boiler?

Yes, it is. But I'm pretty sure the main PCB has died, as there is no life/lights on it whatsoever. I have tried all of the basics like changing the fuse in the plug which provides power to the boiler.

The boiler company who actually provides the engineers has (of course) advised that it will now be Boxing Day at the earliest before they can send someone out.

However, I popped out to B&Q and have managed to pick up some fan heaters, and we thankfully also have an electric shower and dishwasher, so we'll be OK until it gets fixed.

:)

Mine went last night too :( Feel your pain.

Just hope it will be safe whilst we're away from the house for a few days.

Your gas pipe froze? As in the gas inside it? I somehow doubt that :p
