Dirty number plates

My numberplate's the only bit of my car I've been making any effort to clean, I rub snow on it :D

The rest of it was, until the last snow, so dirty and black that it looked like it had been on fire

Who cares? As I'm not a police officer I don't really care as to whether I can read their plates or not.
The biggest gripe I've got this winter so far is the lack of headlights by grey and silver cars in grey weather. TURN YOUR ****ING LIGHTS ON YOU ****ING *****.

lol noticed this as well, BMW and Audis, my keeps clean for some reason but how hard is it you get some wet tissue and wipe.

My cars filthy and you probably can't see my number plate very well.

I'm really sorry this offends you and no I didn't do it on purpose. This is what happenes when you drive on motorways a lot in this weather. :p

From the roof it can all drop onto the windscreen under braking or fall off the rear into the car behind.

Hmm, my car has tons of snow on the roof, I may see if I can sort that out as it would not be good if it drop onto my windscreen while driving...

Could anyone shed any light on why this is the case? Do the owners do it deliberately in the belief that the number won't show up on a speed camera or something?

The number wont show up on speed cameras, its covered in dirt ;)

Its a £35 fixed penalty if they are pulled by the fuzz, however the chances of actually running into a copper is virtually nil, so whats to stop them?

I had it happen once at 70 on the A14, will never ever risk it again. Seriously scary, it was too heavy to move with the wipers so just braked hard and it slid off.

I heard on the wireless the other day that the police are handing out penalty points to those people who have excess snow on their car.

Why has everyone in this thread completely misread the OP?

He is talking about cars which are clean other than a filthy numberplate - ie people who have cleaned the car but deliberately not cleaned the numberplate.

Someone I know.

Generally I find in this weather rep drivers are the worst, but thats prob down to the mileage done in this weather, Ive had the misfortune of having to do stupid miles in the last 4 weeks, and its nigh on impossible to keep the car remotely clean, even all the jetwashes ive tried at pumps have been frozen.

I found I had to clean the glass, mirrors and lights twice a journey, fortunately my rear plate is high up and seems to escape the worst, but the lights are really getting caked up, not a fun time for professional drivers, cleaning is sometimes the last thing on their minds.

Im not looking forward to cleaning my wheels, they are soo gunked up its redonkulous!
