Is a 480 worth it?

My "LAN" rig at the moment has 1gb 460.. I also use this rig as a folder when im not a LANS (970 cpu)

Would it be worth getting a 480 with the voucher?

currently it has a SOC 460..

Im thinking 235 with the discount for the 480...

Maybe circa 150 on a certain site for the 460 so 85 quid for the upgrade....

How long would this card last, or would it be a noisy power hungry beast that as an "upgrade" doesnt make sense as it will be folding 24/7.....

Thanks in advance...

Yes worth it. Regarding noise if you have good case airflow it is not an issue unless you run furmark. Poor case airflow than an aftermarket cooler would be required to keep noise low.

At stock clocks not loud at all, my 480 at stock clocks with 1.025v never goes above 60% fan, and that's not loud at all.

Same performance as a 570. And yeah if we do get a very ram intensive game any time soon then the 480 has the edge with higher capacity memory.

Isn't it more cost effective and better performance to buy 2 460 gtx cards.
Totalling around £200-£250.

not really considering hes getting a discount, and selling old card.

if u read the post, hes paying about £85 for the upgrade, which would be cheaper than getting a 2nd 460.

plus u'll be on a single card instead of running sli which some ppl have problems with.
and can always upgrade to SLI in the future

Maybe I've been spoiled by watercooling, but I don't find a GTX480 at stock clocks quiet at all (I ran one card aircooled and one watercooled (original) while I was waiting for my FT02 to turn up so I would rebuild the loop etc).

Having said that, my V2000 that it was in at the time didn't have a huge amount of airflow for the GPUs, so I guess it depends on your case/fan set-up.
