Burnout Paradise - The Ultimate Box - free!

Criterion are attrocious devs. They have some strange infatuation with unskippable cutscenes and everything has some kind of superflous intro (especially in NFS:HP), so regardless of how good the game is you just feel like smashing your head into the wall trying to find some magic "skip" key.

Spot on!, Criterion = Tossers

Its not just Criterion, it seems every dev is doing it now, its the in thing. Why be unique or functional when you can stand in the middle of the crowd, with Dirt 2, and all the others, with uneccesary cutscenes and pandering flashyness.

Most devs have been using unskippable cutscenes since the 1990's. As for Criterion being 'atrocious' from what I can recall Criterion are the only dev in recent years to offer free dlc and game changing updates well after a year from the games release. How many other software developers can you say that about?

Can't the cutscenes be deleted in the install? When I played Crysis and was modding the settings with the config I was restarting so many times I got sick of all those intro videos, so I deleted them.

Thanks for this willhub.

BTW

Anyone having BSOD while playing this? My PC has been stable for years and this is the only game giving me issues >.< Think it my have something to do with my CPU OC as the game plays more stable with no OC. Quite strange that non of my other games give this trouble.

Valve comes to mind pretty quickly.
TF2 has been out several years now and is still getting content. You're right, this level of support in unfortunately rare.

I really wish there was an option to turn off the takedown cutscenes tbh.

Unskippable cutscenes/dialogue/scripted events are a major pain in the backside for me. You've seen them once, you don't need to see them again. Is it really hard to include an option where you can turn them off?

Very frustrating if you have to repeat a section/boss whatever after failing.

Eh? No they haven't.

Burnout Paradise lacks the decent DLC which the consoles got. Criterion's NFS Hot Pursuit DLC isn't coming to the PC either, free or otherwise.

Not that I wish to start an aurgument but unskippable cutscenes have in fact been used since the 90's on a wide variety of platforms including Amiga, Megadrive, Snes, Gameboy to name but a few. Were talking animated intros as opposed to full on fmv but the principle is the same.

As for the dlc issue I admit I wasn't being platform specific and admit the PC does always get the raw end of the deal but Criterion are still a good dev(on console at least). Take advantage of this offer if you want to get some pay back for the missing PC dlc!

'Most devs' don't use them though :p.

Interface is generally one of the areas that western developers lead the way in, typically it's the Japanese devs that lag behind in this aspect.

So that does make it a little odd that Criterion believe players want to see the same 'you have a new car' screen over and over again. Still a decent developer in my book despite that, though it remains to be seen if they will ever be able to truly leave their comfort zone.

Yeah, point taken friend. I like seeing what rewards you earn in games, but I agree they should give you the option to skip it if you want to.
