As of tomorrow, I will be joining the BMW owners club after paying my insurance fee today (BMW 523i SE)! :D

Really cannot wait.. I have been off the road way too long!

Good luck in the snow and ice if it returns, I lost track of the amount of ultimate driving machines I gave a push to get them moving out of my way.

Congratulations.

Any reason why you went for a 523i? It offers the running costs of the larger engines without the performance.

This is the guy who had a 1.5 Civic and couldn't insure it, I think...

A few months ago he was asking about financing a 1.2 Corsa for £5k. He appears to be 18.

I suspect then that this particular 523i is going to be a 'cheap' E39, 96-00.

I wish him all the best, they are great cars, but fear this isn't going to end well. These are just too old to be hassle free now, as DannyW discovered when he thought he'd got himself a 'bargain' 523i :( At the very least it's going to do 270ish miles around town to an £80 tank of fuel.

He's posted quite a few threads on car buying, it's a shame he didnt post a 'Looking at a cheap E39' thread as you really do need to know what the minefields are when buying this and lots of us could have advised him.

So, 18 + Inexperienced + Acts before thinking + Winter + RWD = Backwards into a hedge.

Probably won't have to worry about running and maintenance costs for that long :p

Perhaps hes bought a nearly new one then he wont have any engine problems :)

A couple of months ago he didn't have £5k for a Corsa. It's probably going to be a ropey, abused early one bought for no reason other than because "It's a BMW" :(

You've got to wish him luck and congratulate him for buying an interesting first car, but I've got the feeling this might not end well.

Well since the Corsa episode he might have stumbled over a few quid, or not, i dunno :)

Strange choice, going from querying a loan over a Corsa and worrying about the insurance, to a 5-series.

*breaks out popcorn*

Needs pics though.
