New member to the BMW crowd!

Why does it matter than he's only been driving 9 months?

A 523i is far from a fire spitting beat! :D.

No but I can only start to imagine how much insurance money was spent on this considering the OP's last predicaments. At least he didn't go out and buy an MG ZR, that would have been tragic.

Where is the man with the full info on the new beast anyway?

i'd of said more money than sense, but it seems both are lacking in this case.

can he even get insured on a 3.5 v8 at his age? i'm paying just under 1k at 21 for a renaultsport clio 182 (2.0 16v) with 3yr ncb and the best postcode!

Its a 523, thats a 2.5 straight 6.

Lack of experience? Aswell as lack of funds to keep the car maintained in a decent fashion possibily means this won't end well :(

Unless his circumstances have changed.

I'm not denying the maintenance angle, but I'm really not seeing why "lack of experience" would be an issue with a 523i?

Realistically you've not going to get many realdiliy available RWD cars that are any slower. Come on, an automatic one supposedly pops out 0-60 in nearly 10 seconds .

A poorly built rattly French hatchback would probably feel a lot quicker

It's not so much the speed, just the way the car reacts when loss of grip occurs. 0-60 times aside, the car can still hit reasonable speed without much effort compared to other cars.

And that huge hefty lump, with rwd, when moving and needs to be stopping because of a corner / obstruction is where things matter. Not 0-60 or 1/4 mile time ;)

You react in exactly the same way that you would do in a FWD car - You freeze, pull a funny face and hope that somehow you don't hit anything solid ;).

But it is still monumentality slow. If he does get into a situation where he is going to stick it into a hedge he would have got there because he was driving like a clown, not because he was driving a RWD barge.

RWD + Youth does not necessarily equal insta-death gentlemen :).

I'm pretty sure I've been a couple of situations when I first started driving where a bit of FWD washout occurred, if I was in something powered by the rear wheels I probably would have swapped ends.

I don't think people are insinuating that, it's just a different skillset.

Thats exactly right, then you pull over sweating and amazed you missed everything, unless of course you crashed, then you have already stopped :)

.

It will do high speeds easily, for you to think different is very naive.
