Hello everyone. In October I ordered this...

www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-099-MS

A lovely card that is incredibly fast. I have however encountered a small issue. When I first got it installed i replayed far cry 2, I encountered an error when the screen would go black, i could hear the graphics cards fan spin down, and that would be that. I could hear the game, still shoot and what not but obviously nothing but black, alt tab or ctrl alt del back to desktop... hmm. I didn't pay it much attention because Far Cry 2 has its fair share of bugs so I didn't pay it much mind.

Anyway, since then ive had the problem occur in Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Call of Duty Black Ops. The main difference being that in bad company 2 the screen goes white, and in black ops, it was possible to go back to the game. It would be like a slide show for a few seconds, then it was back to playable. It did it in multi player too.

Ive checked that cards temps and nothing seems out of the ordinary. The cad has come oc i believe but I haven't added any more to that. It is literally as it was out of the box.

The rest of the system

Intel Core i5 760 Retail (Intel reference cooler supplied)
4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz (2x2GB)
Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 microATX Motherboard
Creative xtreme gamer sound card
250gb hd

Im hoping it might just be a driver problem as I don't want to rma this thing.

Any help would be awesome.

So have you tried other drivers?. Only thing I could suggest to make sure is to test the card in another machine but you've already stated to another member that it's not possible any time soon.

Sapphire Pure 625W Modular Power Supply is my power supply.

At the risk of sounding like a noob could someone suggest some drivers? i have the 260.99 ones i think which are the latest.

Sounds like it might be a driver crash and recovery. The low FPS is because it recovers in low power/2D mode at first.

This could be a bad driver install, but it's also worth noting that the 4xx series do this driver crashing when the core overclock is unstable (although mine tend to be stuck in 2D clocks until I restart when this happens).

Have you got a Logitech G15 by any chance? If so you can get MSI Afterburner to display the clocks on its LCD panel. Or you could quickly alt-tab out when it happens and check your clock speeds that way.

If reinstalling drivers or changing driver versions doesn't help, you might want to try downclocking the card. If you've not overclocked it yourself, it's always possible that the factory-applied OC is a little unstable. In this case, you could RMA the card for not performing as advertised.

I guess you best play around with a few more games before deciding if it is truly stable. Bench test sometimes don't cause instability as games does, as it might not stress all area of the card...for example, when I overclocking my 5850, it would do many loops of Heaven Benchmark without crashing, but when I run BFBC2, the game/driver would crash...meaning that the overclock is not stable enough.

What version driver are you using by the way?

Sounds like drivers to me. I have stability issues with my 460 SLI setup on certain drivers. Try the ones that came with the card rather than the latest. IIRC the ones you state are NOT stable for me (but that might be an SLI issue).

Good luck.

I am using driver version 260.99.

Any known issues with these drivers?
When I was still on my 9800GTX+, 260.99 would cause crashes for me in Team Fortress 2, Left4Dead 2 despite driver prior to it didn't have that problem. After I updated the driver to 265.90, the crash problem was gone (or at least I thought it's gone since I don't really recall any crashes).

I guess you best try a driver difference from 260.99.

Now coming upto half an hour. Everything steady at 60fps.

I don't find Furmark a reliable OC/stress test on its own. It does ramp up temperatures, and it's very good at stressing the graphics memory more than games tend to, but to test core stability, you'd be best off trying something like Crysis and/or Heaven 2.1 benchmark.

It seems pretty clear you're experiencing driver crashes and recoveries. The next question needs to isolate the cause. I would suspect either a conflict with your particular driver version and your system, leftover previous drivers, or unstable core speeds/voltages.

If I were you, my first course of action would be to run at speeds below the factory OC (perhaps reference GTX460 speeds of 675 core and 3600 mem) and see if you still have these problems.

Hello guys. Bit of a major bump here.

Any who. I have tried several driver revisions and it seems like its not making much difference. She behaves for a couple of weeks then sooner or later the same problems. This time on Dead Space 2. (stretched textures, black spots flickering on and off) also other games with have different things (Starcraft 2 had mental artifcating on the menu screens causing lock ups and ctrl alt del'ing back to desk top, and mass effect displayed similar effects too).

So i think im going to RMA the card. It seems like a logical move so my question is how do i go about it? The card was purchased on the 8th of October from here (obviously) so whats next?

Cheers in advance
