Kittens

Thanks for the tips, What food do you recommend me to purchase? or do you advise to try and purchase what they are already eating?

Buy nothing until you have chosen one/them. If they are under 8 weeks old you won't be allowed to take them yet anyway so have time to buy whatever they have been eating already.

For the first week or so they kitten is going to be exploring and adjusting to not being around its mother/siblings. Don't stress it out buy giving it different food as well.

As for long term food that really depends on your budget and on the cat. Thousands of cats live long happy lives on those same supermarket brands I mentioned earlier so they are fine. If you can afford a little more, or if the cat seems to get an upset tummy with them (they are often high in sugar and carbs as i mentioned) then trying something else might be an idea.

Your best bet is looking at somewhere like this. Hobbs 2004 there has compiled a few threads detailing the contents of a very wide range of wet and dry foods. Some have very bad chemical balances, some have too little or too much fat, some have better quality ingredients. Ultimately if your cat won't eat it you don't have much choice regardless!

The Kitten I was looking at was 12 Weeks, But not sure if we are getting that one, I think when it comes to getting one I will ask the owner what the Kitten has been eating and then purchase it on the way home or beforehand depending on whether I've emailed them or not

I dont know any vets pushing dry food for cats? I have always been told wet for cats dry for dogs, though sure they both prefer the opposite of when is best for them.

For cheap scratching posts / play area keep an eye out in lidil's They were going cheap so we got 3 and screwed them together to give him something to climb as well. The big ones are crazy prices (£80+)

ymmv really. Some vets do push dry food while others push wet. The concern is that some are pushing dry not for the benefit of the cat for for the benefit of themselves.

Oh yeah, and don't bother trying to find kitten food in the long run. Its just normal food in smaller bits. Most actual premium foods (not premium supermarket) don't even bother making kitten food. Our three have been on standard food from about 10 weeks.

Thanks for the heads up, Didn't think they would sell stuff like that there, will definitely keep my eye's open for any deals going

Agreed or one like maxilives there both soo cute, but then again so are all kittens. :p

:P Really can't wait to get one now, and it's definitely got to be a ginger one aha :P

I think you should :P And post pics as well :D

Don't think i could it wouldn't get enough attention and everything it needs and don't want it to suffer just because i get an itch for one.

Can always just nip around my cousins as she has one :p

Too bad they don't stay kittens for long though :p Mine is just as playful as it was when it was a kitten. 2 best toys i advise is a laser pen 9be careful what type of laser you use and don't point it at your cat) and a pop up play tent I found on ebay, got him 4 of them over the past year or so as he absolutely loves it for sleeping it, ducking in and out of and generally hiding in. He has totally wrecked 2 of them though and I just got another 2 stronger ones for Christmas as they were only £2(+p&p) each I think.

He's also got a rather large climbing frame thing which was £40 on ebay brand new!!! Crazy price for the size considering tiny ones were £30 in most highstreet shops. Best of luck with your kitty hunt took a few weeks to find anywhere near me that had any! Pics when you get him/her :D Also be careful with the sexes as mine was suppose to be a she until he started cleaning this big pink thing as he got older....

This thread has made me want one now.

There qare hundreds in Cats Protection homes and other places looking for owners, go for it!

Do try one of these rescue places first though. Any kittens from there have not been bred for profit, will cost you less, will have been looked after properly and in the case of the Cats Protection for our three, came with the 2 main injections they needed (one at about 4 weeks and one at about 8) as well as being flead and wormed AND they were all also micro chipped. They were £75 each when we would have been looking at £100+ from a breeder which wouldn't have come with most of the above.

Its quite hard to find ginger cats, the only one I've found so far is 12 weeks old and from CPL which looks nice, I'm planning on buying all of the stuff over the next few days apart from the food because I don't want to get the wrong food, and I'm going to keep looking, and hopefully a nice ginger kitten will pop up :)

Sorry to thread jack a bit, but do cats need injections even if they are going to be home cats?

We got ours free from a neighbour (saved the poor fellow from being drowned) so no injections or anything. I know it is bad but to be honest I forgot to check if he needed any :(

Here's a picture of mine (sorry about my ugly mug in it I don't have any of him on his own). He is doing his impression of a scurf/patriot. He loves being on my shoulders for some reason

He's about 7 months old. They grow really quick

Black cats are the best :).

They weren't identical no, one was larger and more dominant than the other, but they were brothers so they did look similar :)

They are the best cats that ever lived :)
