Charlie Brooker WINS!

Also really like Charlie Brooker.

Newswipe is not quite as good as Screenwipe, mainly because of the subject matter of most news topics (war, death, tornadoes, etc aren't really that funny).

So I usually find Newswipe more insightful, and Screenwipe more funny. Both shows are great though, and I've got his books as well.

Only ever heard of him on here. Can't be that good if that's all he was up against.

i honestly cant believe this. hes in the papers constantly. on tv quite a bit. lots of people love him

personally i loved him at first but then i realised hes just an angry bitter man (albeit a funny angry man)

You have not lived till you have had a read of TV go home, with such delights as "Poppa ******* Christmas" "Die hard 5 locked in a box of wolves" and Mick Hucknalls Pink Pancakes".

Ah, I used to read TV go home years ago when it was funny. If this is him I've encountered his work.

Even more good news for the curmudgeonly misanthrope!

Makes up for Newswipe missing out at the Bafta TV Awards, but I just hope it doesn't cheer him up too much...

Wow! Funny and a player! What a guy.

I love Charlie Brookers stuff, I've read him since the old PC Zone's 10 years ago.

I fear he is totally selling out to the horrid works of Channel 4 though :(

I mean Channel 4, is the **** box, hate production that creates the likes of Hollyoaks - every teens guide on what not to do in life. I like what Brooker stands for, and how he tells it how it is, but my GOD DO I HATE CHANNEL 4. Brookers hair looks like somebody placed it on his head these days, I fear he already to past gone to the dark side.

Should have stuck with BBC.

Post is nearly incoherent ranting. What is the problem with C4 ? ( other than they show hollyoaks?!)

Do you have any idea of the public service remits of both organisations? What exactly is your problem?

Agreed very bizarre, if anything C4 have arguably been the most 'edgy' terrestrial channel of the past 15 years (and I mean 'edgy' in a good way). They've put out some very funny and slightly controversial comedy and I would have though Brooker would make a good fit with them. Take Mark Thomas for example (before he got overly political).

Incoherent ranting? You need to go back to your Ladybird books.

C4 are "edgy" in the most flip flop way possible? They try and tackle real issues, but present them in the most one sided and biased arguments possible.

Take Skins for instance? Won loads of awards all around. Very well acted yeah, nicely shot, and a good sound track throughout. What about the bad though? It turned from a humouress look into teenage life, into a depressing tale of torture focusing on teenage life. In a single episode you'd see teenagers going to drugs over parents splitting up, death in the family, drug abuse, pregnancy - all in one episode! It stopped being funny, it started being over the top. The laughs dried up, and it failed to be what is originally was - I stopped watching it.

My problem is he's selling out who he is to be what Channel 4 want him to be. He's got a stupid trendy hair cut, uses stupid colour and set props, and starts a show with the most over-rehersed opening liners that I've heard that week. It makes me cringe.

Brooker used plainly shot rooms with adequate lighting, even when it was his own living room before for people to hear what he had to say. Now he needs a stupid set, a stupid barnet, and a corny opening liner these days. He's not over the hill in turning to Channel 4 dark side, but he needs to go back to the BBC.

Still, his Missus deserves credit.
