Does this seem like a fair but firm price (recent job from my on the side pc repair business)

ask him if you can put some of your cards in their reception as you are giving him a discount...

Already done this a year ago when he first got some work done by me :p

I do have some new design cards of mine to give him for the surgery

I have two of the dentists down there are customers of mine. Soon i'll taking over the dentist industry :)

When i ran my own business i charged £30p/hr for home users and for business users its £35p/hr

If it was over 20miles we start charging the 40p/mile expenses.

Damn thats expensive for something so easy. Poor mugs who payed for that haha.

Should say "i would do it for a tenner" and count yourself lucky like i do.

Mind if I ask how do you promote yourself and your side business ?

Its something i've been wanting to get into for a while now, but the only way of getting myself out there is through advertising and the local paper wants £75 a day for advertising.

Seems a lot of people sell themselfs short, having the technical knowledge and know how on repairing PC hardware and software isnt something everyone knows, and if you can get money for what you know then why not.

You wouldnt expect a world class chef to give you free meals would you ? They will charge accordingly.

PC1 - Full Data Backup and restore to new PC including Outlook Emails, Accounts, Contacts - Restore on to newly purchased PC - Data restored, and PC cleaned up from all the rubbish put on.

Installed Printer and Configured printer for wireless

2 hours work - £50

New laptop 1 - Cleanup from all the stuff put on laptops, installed and configured ITunes, Configured printer for Wireless - 1 Hour work - £20

New laptop 2 - Cleanup from all the stuff put on laptops, installed and configured ITunes, Configured printer for Wireless - 1 Hour work - £20

Total = £90

Usually I charge £25 an hour but thought I would give him a slight discount on the two laptops

Does this seem fair?

If your too cheap people come back to you for the most trivial questions. You are in the right to change aslong as you say exactly why you charged it on the invoice. If a user complains, drop the price and then say next time please go to PC world and see what they charge.

I probably wouldn't even have bothered cleaning up the system. I'm a fan of formats aslong as the media is there and they have a legit licence.

It started off as leaflets and postcards, free entrance in yell.com website and another local directory website, however after I got a few under the belt it turned more in to word of mouth and now some business cards here and there.

I am building up a nice customer base who come back to me, however I'm trying to keep it building up at a nice sustainable rate rather than full force as I still want to concentrate more on my main career.

Self promotion, word of mouth et al.

PS I did a restore the other day, pressed f11. Clicked next and watched it for 5. £30 I charged for that.

£25 per hour is probably a little too far on the cheap side. If the work was done as a call out then it really is too cheap.

Just think of all the associated costs for starters...

I might stick to my guns on this one and charge £50 for the desktop PC and £25 per laptop, then include the wireless printer setup for free

Total £100

Don't push it too far. Seems responable to me but I bet the customer doesn't think that. Did you explain some of the main costs to start with and how much it could be? That's abit to put onto someone if they never knew costs before hand.

Nah I do usually but in this case I guess I didn't :( but I think your right, might just go back to my original cost on this occasion to play it safe.

Bit of advice is probably give an estimate and ask if they are ok with the price because I have had the odd person complaining and I have had to get prices from other places to prove costs.

I no it's a business and stuff, however it's not nice just to have a price landed on your doorstep.

Good work though.
