BMW 328?

Yeah it did looked fairly well speced, I know 5K doesn't buy an awful amount.
Literally don't know what to go for, only have a short commute 15miles ish but I really enjoy driving and want something I can use a bit at the weekends.
Any suggestions?

Nah, it could be totally fine, I'm just being harsh. :D

Thing you have to remember with BMWs, especially ones of this age is that they were £30k cars and still have the parts/servicing costs. So if/when something breaks, it costs a fair bit to fix (unless you can get pattern parts and do it yourself...but even then, the parts are not cheap).

Yeah it did cross my mind!

Problem atm is I dont really have a spec, don't mind RWD FWD etc

I want to be "fast" well not fast fast just fastish, circa 200bhp+ I know thats not fast but you know what I mean!
AC
Leather
5K

Damn i wish I had 2.5 kids and a wife - mondeo st 220

I dont, I just know its a decent car. The others in my imaginary good car list include 182s, DC2, CTRs, 330s, etc

Think a loose spec is
4-5K
Leather/Recaros
AC
Circa 200bhp + a bonus
A bit of reliability would be nice
Good handling

27 year old single male btw, not ready for a st 220 just yet or Xtype will do in time. Not ruling out saloons though!

It's nice to write this down as I haven't done previously :p

He wants a reliable car not a money pit.

Edit: Hey that was an unfair ninja edit :p

No idea why I typed that first one, brain wasn't working :P

Old beemers are a money sink. My old man sold his 1998 5 series to the next door neighbour a few months back, and he's had to spend roughly 1k in repairs so far. It had a full BMW service history so it wasn't a shed (he was very anal about that).

I wouldn't spend that much on an old car, but that's just me.

That means nothing.

With value servicing, servicing isn't expensive even at the dealers

My sister in law bought a 2005 mondeo 12 months ago and has spent nearly £800 on it since she had it- It's to be expected with used cars.

I don't see any reason to run away from cars like this just because they're BMWs. The only thing that would take some time to weigh up is, as Fox says, is £4k for a 12 year old car "a lot of car for the money". I know what my answer would be, but we all want different things from our motors.

£800 on a Mondeo that isnt a diesel (Everyone on here gives similar advice against Mondeo diesels) is definately the exception rather than the norm.

The problem with BMW's is that if your finances can take the sometimes relentless battering then why are you only spending £4k?
