Hi all.

Wondering what kind of performance increase you guys think I would get from going from my Q6600 which has been runing on 3825MHz the past few years to going to SandyBridge 2600k? Anyone knows what the max overclock for that is on air?

What kind of use does your system have, Q6600 at 3.8 is still very strong, and probably not worth the hassle upgrading to Sandybridge just yet.

i also have a Q6600 @ 3.6 & would like to know what the gains (if any) for me as gamer if i upgrade to SB 2600K will be.

It would be mainly for gaming I guess :P

I am very strongly leaning on waiting for ivy bridge and get a 8 core. I know for sure that would be a hell of a upgrade.

But it's always nice to get people's thoughts. Any ideas on what kind of performance increase would be nice :)

My G0 Q6600 only runs at 3ghz (mobo limited I think) and i've had it nearly 4 years. Hopefully i'll see similar legs in the 2500k and hopefully i'll be able to get it running at 4.5ish.

If i could have gotten my chip to 3.6 or even 3.8, or been so dead certain that it was my motherboard and just bought a new one then maybe i wouldn't have upgraded. But The upgrade also give me a choice to run another 460GTX if I want which i cant do at the moment.

In the end i weighed it up and went for it. I'll be running benches on my rig before and after but that wont be until Wednesday when i'm off work.

Strongly tempted to upgrade myself. Had this old girl for 3 years now and I expect to see a boost in min frame rates with SB, which will make a difference in my gaming experience.

My Q6600 is running at 3.0GHz, and I'm thinking of the same upgrade!

Will be really interesting to see the real world differences.

A highly clocked CPU can also make a big difference to frame rates in game.

I have a Q600 at 3.0 and I will be upgrading in a few weeks. I already have a 6950 (6970) and may get one more to xfire with a 2600k :)

I'm still using a Q6600 @ 3.60ghz with a gigabyte p45-udr3 and 4gb corsair dominator. It's still a good CPU when overclocked.

Would like to know if it's worth blowing all that money on SB stuff as well :P

If you are sensible, you can upgrade for £200. Hardly the end of the world.

Hmm 2500k = £250 motherboard = £100 + ram = £60 +

q6600 = £70-£80
board =£30
memory = £45

I don't make that £200 but I will say if you are going to sell up DO IT NOW or very soon.
Only a matter of time before we start seeing core i5 750's going for £100 or less second hand which will drive down the Q6600 prices.

What you should be looking at is the actual use for your pc and the games that will require an upgrade.
I don't see anything struggling on a 775 quad for at least 2 years, hard to believe but prove me wrong ?

minimum frames require a cpu!

While what you say is true, its totally moot in the context of someone with a 5770 and a cpu clocked at 3.8ghz ... ribbing someone's suggestion that he should upgrade his GPU when it is definitively the bottleneck is naff ><

OP yeah if you have some money to throw around get yourself a nvidia 580 or SLI 570's if you want to dominate.

I'm going to stick where I am, not that I wouldn't like new hardware to play about with, but because my system runs the latest games just fine maxed out (bar a couple of tweaks) & that's the most resource hungry thing I use it for. When it becomes unable to do want I want it to I'll upgrade.
