These specs seem ludicrously high.

Firstly the recommended specs:

2nd Generation Intel Core i5 processor? Are they refering to Sandy Bridge?

Also the first game I'v seen to recommend a AMD card over an Nvidia!

Those are some beefy looking system requirments!

It looks like it will scale nicely, butto play it maxed out looks like your going need a Sandy to start with!

Total wars always love powerful CPU's but those recommended specs can't be right surely.

If so that would be a huge jump over Empire which ran decently on mid Core 2 Duo's.

I just can't see it happening, but I won't complain if the graphics are worth it I guess.

Well the Empire/Napolean requirements were far too weak and always required much more then needed. Maybe these are realistic targets.

This, always overestimate with total war games (in my experience). Especially since they are nowadays only worth playing with mods (which usually require even more welly)

Hope its true tbh, something needs to be the flagship game to make people upgrade there PCs so other games follow suit and we have games testing our hardware.

PC gaming needs to progress :D

In other words they have created an un-optimised buggy piece of crap. Looking at the vids it doesn't look that much different from Nap.

Uggh CA are killing this brilliant franchise

I posted my spec (see sig) on the total war forum heres the answer i got from the hardware moderator:

Welcome to the forums man its always nice to see new people around here

At that resolution, your gonna have a little bit of a struggle getting high settings. You might wanna consider leaving your unit size at large.

I got a feeling he is right about my resolution (2560x1440) being quite high. But surely my rig can cope with this game.

We need a demo, i cant wait to play this game.

Actually on second thoughts, its just marketing!

Intel are paying them money to say its recommended to have a Sandy Bridge processor!

Bingo! you beat me to it. Was just about to post the same.

If the old Q series quads or current gen i5/7s can't run it near to max then CA obviously can't code their way out of a paper bag.

I don't see why this is such a big story, recommended specs are invariably far too low (my rule of thumb, is add 50% power to the recommended spec, and that is the MIN spec if you want decent performance without turning a lot of settings down) and Total War games typically need a high-end cpu.

I think the only reason people are making a song-and-dance about it is the timing of the announcement, possibly some kind of partnership with Intel going on there.

I think it is no wonder most publishers put really low/unrealistic specs on games, because as soon as they try and be realistic, everyone starts jumping up and down and saying how shoddy the code must be if it needs a fair amount of grunt. Just don't come whining when you buy the game and you can't run it on MAXXX settings with the 'recommended' spec.

when you start up empire total war you are greeted with a massive "runs great on intel" screen

so i wouldn't read too much into it

probably runs fine on a decently clocked q6600

I havnt really liked any of them other than the original Shogun and Rome. Dont know why, but the others seemed dull and boring in comparison.

im the same

never got into the others apart from Shogun and Rome

think its because the other games have guns and cannons etc while the rome and shogun are more focused towards swords and cavalry which i prefer

Surprised by those specs to be honest so I guess this will be the first game in ages that I will have to run at lower settings. I'm sure an i7 920 will get a good performance from it, may consider upgrading from my 4870x2 though.

System requirements are only ever a starting point at best in knowing how well a game runs. And in the case of Shogun the technical demands the game places on my hardware are not what I am worried about. If the game is good enough I'll be happy to make what upgrades are necessary. But will it be any good? Will they make the same old mistakes of too many features, too little polish and too-stupid AI? In my view they haven't had the balance right since the original Shogun.
