Job Seekers hastle

Shouldn't they be on incapacity benefits instead of JOBSEEKERS allowance then?

this tbh...

Surely more to the story - there is already a system in place for people who are unable to work due to illness etc.. It does seem rather odd that someone could be that sick and somehow not qualify. Though I'm presuming the 'I have migraines' isn't enough perhaps she should ask to be reassessed given this new diagnosis.

What's most important here is the work she CAN do. For example I would guess she would be able to stuff envelopes between migranes, even when on medication. Maybe she could deliver catalogues to her neighbours - again in between headaches, but maybe not when on the medication. If she can do 8 hours of each per week then David Cameron will be a happy man.
Welcome to Conservative UK 2010.

Whereas in Labour UK 1997-2010 we'd hand out benefits and deem someone unfit to work based on an internet forum post.

It's the stroke risk that's the main concern related to her hole in the heart, it would be very difficult to even stuff an envelope when she goes blind in one eye and paralized.

I have spoken to her, was horrible seeing her so spaced out, it sometimes gave me this horrible feeling she was having a stroke. She basically said that she went to the doctors and they refused her a sick note based on all her migrains. So my feeling is that now they know she is at risk of a stroke, the hole in the heart and the migrains things will be different.

I nearly shed a tear as i hate seeing her like that, want her to get better and to live her life as she should :(

This is what I was going to say.

She doesn't belong on job seekers as she isn't seeking a job. Of course she should be on incapacity benefits or however it works over there. Chances are she'll get as much if not more than if she's on job seekers allowance.

iirc she will have to apply for incapacity and go to a series of interviews and have medical proof she isn't able to work or maybe visit a specialist doctor

Oh look, usual JobCentre rubbish. They did that to my mum, said that she was fit for work when she could barely lift a glass of water. All because the consultant wouldn't sign some damn forms and said she was fine. And then she appealed it, but the consultant stood by his comments or whatever.

Thankyou everyone, you've really helped me and my mother out!

She was able to get a sick note today and they didn't see why she shouldn't go on incapacity atleast until she gets the op. Will give it in to the job center tomorrow and i won't take no for an answer

What a bunch of tossers, the attitude on the phone was disgusting when i spoke to the jobcenter. Even asking what time are you open till met with stern downtalking attitude. Also The gist of it is even after i explained what was wrong with her, the lady on the phone basically said how does that stop her from working . I clearly said to her " Because she is at risk from a stroke and cannot work atleast until her op, this is what the doctor AND hospital has said ".

Here is the number and she rattled it off before i even had a chance thus i told her wait a minuite let me get a pen, I'm not that quick. I have nothing to do with the jobcenter but i can clearly see how they treat people. The entire time i felt i was being spoken down to and believe me i wouln't put up with that so i told her at her level what was going on

I know how you feel Neil79. I was on jobseekers for a total of 2 weeks. They sit there and you can see the smugness in their faces, they look at you as if to say "well i've got a job" No wonder they need security. I left there wanting to punch them myself!

I'm sorry for your friend but I imagine it's down to all those who pretended to be sick in the past. Way too many incapacity benefit cheaters in the past.

I hate the Job Centre almost as much as I hate chavs, the way they speak to you is unbelievable at times, I get an attitude from them even though I'm not out of work, they just assume because I'm there seeing what other jobs are on offer that I must be a scum-bag that's needs to be talked down to.

And how they determine if you fit for work now is like being integrated by the gestapo, basically a Sick note from a trained Doctor is not enough any more, down here in Cornwall you have to see a special panel where by they ask you a series of questions that basically force you to admit that you can breath which means your fit for work and if you miss an appointment you lose your benefits and your on the streets.

Yes I know people have been abusing the system but I feel that people that have real health problems are being punished for that, I know a couple of people that have legitimate health problems that are practically having a nervous breakdown because they are being threaten with having their benefits taken away every week unless they apply for every Job they are given.

She's eligible to put a claim in for ESA even if only for a short duration (until operation) however until the claim is accepted by a DWp decision maker the burden of proof is with the claimant. In practice this simply involves providing a med cert. She will then be contacted by the Departments medical services provider in order to arrange an assessment. However the benefit will already be in payment at assessment rate.

.

She put a claim in and she were due the forms, however they sent nothing out. Now i'm getting blamed i've made things worse because she has no money and should never have signed off. Can't pay the rent and someone else said to me why did she sign off, she'd be worse off. This all happened AFTER!

I feel terrible now, i felt sorry for her i was worried about her health and i've only made it worse. Not fair, it's just not fair :(

My experience with job seekers has been nothing short of disgraceful. This is a group who are supposed to be supporting a vulnerable subset of society and more often than not they cause more trouble than they are worth. Half the staff are trying to 'help' claimants achieve the maximum possible claim they can, the other half are desperately trying to get that money back to score bonus points with management. What you get told one day, you will get told the complete opposite the next day. You play by their rules, and you still lose because of the confusion and misinformation. Nobody knows whats going on, nobody knows what the procedures are, the system is so poorly designed the monkies can't use it properly.

I literally cannot speak or deal with this service anymore because of the stress and anxiety it causes. Every encounter with them is hassle. I would rather amass debt to a leg breaking loan shark than put myself, or my partner through it again

Utter disgrace of a public service.

I can only echo the comments in this thread. The staff just seem to look down on you and some just do the same crap for every person, like the CCA card for building work or whatever it is.

All the jobs I've had have been without there help and it was rather funny turning up to sign on in a suit because I had an interview within the job centre for a job I actually got.

Hey Neil79,

My mums also having problems with the job centre etc, she was removed from her job due to her illness and is currently post op and requires more operations shortly as the first one didn't work. However they have signed her off every form of benefit, she has gotten her local mp involved so hopefully it will be sorted soon. Maybe an idea to see your local mp :)

I'm sorry to hear what has happened now :(

You pretty much just have to push them and not care about being rude. I've had problems with my NI number and every time they said they had sent out forms and filled things out, they had not and just hid under "we can't say who you spoke to last" etc. So I had to go trough the whole process again until I finally got very mad and got to speak to one of the head people in the region who sorted it out personally for me.

Just persist and don't ever feel bad for trying to help her!!
