Hi,

I'm starting to think it's time for me to look at a new gfx card.

I have an ati 3870 with a massive heatsink and no fan. I got Fallout3 for Christmas and I'm thinking an upgrade might do it justice.

I saw the 5770 is about my sort of price range but a 6870 is also tempting. I haven't looked at nvidia simply because I don't know the equivalent model for my current card so can't compare.

Would the 5770 (£95) be a decent buy or would the extra cash of the 6870 (£180) be worth it?

I tried to play FO3 in 1080p but it didn't like that.

I don't play many games but after playing FO3 I'm likely to get new vegas.

Cheers

well my last gfx card was about £160 in 2009 so around that. Lets say £180 max (the ati 6870 in the this week only) but only if it's worth it. New Vegas is the only likely game I'll get in the near future and maybe Civ5 (and Football manager but that doesn't count ;)

Last week I upped the cpu from stock 1.8 to 2.3 but its the Ram and volts I really haven't got a clue about. To get the cpu to that, I had to mess around with the Dram setting (from 800 to 533) and cpu multiplyer. This is a whole other conversation though :).

The HD6850 1GB has similar performance to a GTX460 1GB but is cheaper. The HD5850 1GB is slightly faster than an HD6850 1GB but the latter is slightly better in tessellation.
