Is this desperate?

I have a job, I can earn £100 a day in a shift. I have over £450. Money is no issue.

I'd be looking to spend £300 max, and already have system lined up.

Ah, none of you know my parents. Last time I bought a new part without permission it was returned. Last time I made a fuss over new PC, it was nearly scrapped.

Parents are obtuse and ignorant at times. RE sneaking in, its a bit hard when I'm at school on the days that items are delivered :p

Get it delivered to a mates house

Assuming you have friends :p

Tell them since you're 18 now you should be able to make your own choices in life!

Another alternative is to get it delivered to a friend's, then hide it in your bag and pretend it's textbooks and stuff.

its your money dude, its bad enough having to pay tax on what you earn let alone be told how to spend it.

Its not like you are please star out fully. Thanks. VS it up against the wall. hmmm sounds like a tough one.

I wouldn't fry your PC right after going on about needing to upgrade it.

That is, of course, unless your parents were born yesterday. Which would mean you're travelling time via the internet, in which case there are far more productive discussions to be had right now than this, like does Palin win in 2012 so we know whether to just kill ourselves now and acknowledge that the human race has failed?

Smart thing to do would be order to a friend's house, replace the parts in your existing computer with the new ones whilst claiming you're taking it to a LAN party or something. Come back, computer looks the same, nobody's the wiser. Unless one of your parents is one of us. In which case this discussion wouldn't be open because you'd be loving your new rig right now.

I'm really digging stream of consciousness posting at the moment, in case you hadn't noticed.

On a side note you do need to man up, if you can't sneak upgrades in past parents you'll never have upgrades when you find yourself a lady

this this and always this, you need to start early and learn to be devious, women start learning to be devious in the womb so we're always playing catch up, so get practising now!!!! :p

The problem with your Northwood not dying of SNDS is that its of a later generation that mostly didn't suffer from it :D Even running without a cooler would only result in throttling and eventual shutdown :D

Dude, you're 18, i know your parents might have the best of intents for you, but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. Doubt they will chuck you out for that? :D

take one 20/24 pin atx connector take your pick of one red and one yellow wire and swap them around, press the power button and say goodbye to your current mobo.

My mrs still thinks ive got a 10 year old graphics card in lol;)

My ex wouldn't know a Q9650 from a 1.7 Williamette even if you literally read the names out to her. Plus since i had her place like a PC workshop/warehouse, parts got snuck in easily :D

Tell them your computer doesn't meet the requirements for the software you need for school.

Should have just asked Santa for a new one :p

If you stop the fan, it'll just turn itself off.

If the case is new, then just sell the contents & replace. There's not a chance they'll notice. Delivery to somewhere other than home shouldn't be too tricky.

£100 a shift at 17 is very good.

If you really want to kill your CPU, just go into the bios, and disable all forms of heat protections (alarms, voltage throttling etc), then just up the voltage to whatever the max your board will allow, unplug your CPU fan, and wait for the smoke :p

If the PSU is out of warranty just open it up and desolder the green cable :p

Other options could be flash the bios and pull the plug part way through.......

Pull some pins off the cpu.....

Got a hot air gun? Circuit boards don't like them.....

:D

You don't actually have to kill the pc, you could quite easily fake it and then sell it.

What's your current spec ?

Your parents are idiots - at least you don't want to spend the money on drugs. You should probably point this out - a new PC will keep you happy and busy gaming or whatever for a few months, you're not spending it on weed or crack.

"mum dad im buying new **** for my pc if you dont let me im going to get ****ed on crack, whats it going to be...."

Just pull the CMOS jumper, don't short it on clear or anything (could pop something if you did), just pull it. Your system will likely just spin up with no boot. Everything will look in place, tricked one tech by pulling the copper out of the jumper.. spent hours trying to figure why nothing worked no matter what he did :D
