VW - R

The Golf R will presumably compete against the S3 - a car thats over £30k without options.

The Golf R starts at £31,095 so is price comparable.

In theory, its completely pointless of course because the golf R should never have existed in the first place as VW / Audi have shares in each other making them effectively the same company thus competing against themselves.

But in reality, as already said - the golf brand following is enough to target a whole market that wouldnt buy an S3 but would a Golf R.

At a guess they havent gone that far with the price because the scirroco doesnt have that following ?

In fact Golf R is nothing more than an S3 with a VW Badge.

Surely they both have the same characteristics behind the wheel!

This is what I thought but IMO the S3 looks bland.

An onlooker without knowledge of cars would just assume it's a generic Audi hatchback. For example, the fact Audi have equipped virtually everything with the R8 DRLs have tarnished its premium effect. The exhausts look generic too. Can confirm this because I was driving with the girlfriend and pointed out an 09 plate S3 to her and her response was something along the lines of 'doesn't look anything special.'

The Golf R has a striking presence and the examples I've seen on the road have looked fantastic, nice exhaust note too.

Exterior aside I can't see how they would differ behind the wheel but I really, really think it's time Audi replaced the A3/S3. I actually can't believe they've gone and started producing an RS3.

And yet no one really cared about the focus RS not being 4wd? :S

Thats because it's:
-5k cheaper minimum
-More powerful

Seriously you can spec a golf R to almost 40k with every option ticked, which is a complete joke, but then idiots will pay for the badge.

The golf doesn't even use a proper 4wd system.:D

You can spec a Mini JCW to £40k too. And what's the cost of that stupid Mugen Civic? It was something like £40k wasn't it..?

And I won't rise to the 4wd comment because you're clearly a **** :)

i'd like to think those people would sooner pick up the Audi

That's not even the 'proper' Mugen is it?

The Mugen RR is the monster Civic.

To be honest I just picked the most expensive thing with a Mugen badge to bait Smokes into saying YEAH BUT THEY AIN'T ALL LIKE THAT LOL and I will say same with the Golf, very few will have every box ticked and Smokey will be like damn I've been busted for peddling BS again. Or something like that.

Land Rover

PSA (Citroen Peugeot)

Nissan and Renault, althought they are seperating their products recently.

Peoples apathy goes along way aswell as people wanting the latest and greatest yet something different to what that had last time.

i wouldnt say any of jaguars cars competed directly with Landrover which would be the direct comparison between VW / Audi

Take your point about Peugeot / Citroen however. Neither has any cars that strongly differentiate themselves from the equally sized car produced by the other.

I didnt mention jaguar though?! That would be retarded.

The 3 big SUVs are similar enough that buyera have a degree of selection, they dont tend to go straight for one product from day one.

the defender / range rover / discovery appeal to subtly different markets.

You don't usually find footballers wifes in defenders and likewise you dont find farmers in Range Rover Sports.

the VW Golf R is just an S3 with a different badge stuck on it. Same can't be said of any of landrovers 3 SUVs.

We at Land Rover actually recognise it as an issue, it what the customers are saying. Your conjecture is nothing more than that and wrong.

The RR Sport is actually a discovery with a Range Rover badge on, so yes its very much like a Golf and A3.

You asked for a marque with similar platform different brand cars and I identified some.

Brilliant, well done. I get it, i have a Honda, so therefore i must think that the Mugen CTR is good value. You a douche.

The mugen obviously is very expensive and craxzy money, but at least it's very rare only making 20 of them and it's basically a track car, it would smash a Golf R, there not really aimed at the same people.

But good one, again showing what a complete tool you are.

You could always get a Fiesta ST cus they have sick engines.

What the hell do you know about cars, you have a fiesta Zetec.
