Hi all

Never overclocked a CPU before and want to try with my C2D E6320 and push it to 3.7 ish (from what ive seen on the net, it can go from 1.8 to 3.7). Looking for a cheap board which is good for overclocking, any ideas/recommendation?

By cheap I mean as cheap as possible but will do the job, thanks!

Find the cheapest P45 Chipset motherboard with DDR2 or DDR3 memory (Depends what memory you have) and it will overclock that cpu well.

+1. It will not however be cheap - expect to pay at least £60.

Look out for some second hand stuff. Just make sure its not been abused.

Seems only G41 is available in abundance these days. P45 boards have dried up really (particularly asus).

I'm curious how well some of these newer, cheap boards like the MSI G41M-P25 over-clocks myself :) That's considering this specific matx board has msis standard turbo switch. I can't see them including low-level automatic over-clocking (20%) if the user couldn't push it further themselves.

With the G41 chipset you will get a nice 3GHz overclock on a Q6600, you may find with the G41 chipset there is a FSB wall you will hit after anywhere from 334-345 where the board will not go faster and will refuse to POST.

3.0GHz the Q6600 333 x 9 will work fine for sure seen some hit 3.2GHz too but at a struggle.

P45 chipsets don't have this wall and can clock higher to a point where the cpu will give up before the chipset refuses to POST or allow a higher FSB.

Ive just changed the board in my brothers machine to one of these Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Intel G31because his last board didn't allow any vcore adjustment, his e2180 now runs at 3.2Ghz so the board would get my vote.

one word of warning though it was fussy over using ddr2 5300 ram (didn't have the correct multiplier) but runs fine with ddr2 6400 ram.
