Keep hard drive?

Hi guys, my mate has just bought a new sandybridge system and he wants to know if he can put his old hard drive into his new computer?

Is it IDE or SATA? is there a IDE port on the motherboard? is it a crap old slow drive?

Lol sorry mate, it is SATA, yeah it is only an 80gig one, not sure on the make.

He can use it, but It might be slow and horrid, making the pc sluggish.

Yeh he has a new 500gb HDD to put in it, but he has a really slow net connection and he doesn't want to download all his stuff again.

Could he not take his tower unit too say, your house, hook it up to your monitor/keyboard etc.

And just let him download what ever he needs? also what is it he downloaded? cant he just attach the 80GB drive to the pc after installing windows on the new 500GB drive, and just dragging whatever he wants to keep to the new one?

If its installed drivers and software, then you cant just drag stuff over, if its music/pictures and setup/installers then you can drag the stuff over.

then just disconnect the old drive and bin it.
