Hey guys, I'm soon going to be ordering the parts for my new PC, and I've spent absolutely ages making sure every part is good enough for what I want. I just want to double check again before I buy, as I'm new to PCs and I want to make completely sure I'm doing it right, as I probably won't be upgrading much for a couple or so years. I've already got the graphics card and PSU, as i saw they had a good deal going on for them at Christmas (GTX 460 768mb and CM GX550W. )Currently what I've got is:

Intel Core i5-2400 3.10GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £145.99

MSI P67A-C45 Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £101.99

Antec 100 One Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £44.99

G.Skill RipJawX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel £41.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £27.98

LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99

Sub Total : £316.61
Shipping : £10.00
VAT : £65.32
Total : £391.93

The question is, what do you think of my rig for around a 550 pound price point? Is it worth it, and will it be good for gaming, running games at full with 1920 by 1080 resolution and some AA/AF? Also, if I were to upgrade to an 15 2500K, are there ways which I can cut down on my budget, and also should I change the board to something crossifre or sli enabled? Or is one slot enough, as I can just buy a whole new gpu to replace my gtx 460 when it becomes outdated?

Sorry about the number of questions and the text, but thanks for any help I get :)

Thanks, but what do you think about the motherboard and the dual gpu options? And would the 2500k be a reasonably practical upgrade seeing as I have absolutely no experience of overclocking. Is it hard? Hahaa cheers

Can't cut it down unfortunately. Perhaps Phenom II X4 would be the way to go?

RE SLi I would just upgrade the GTX460 when you feel it start to slow down - P67 chipset SLI boards are few and far between, and very costly!

Overclocking a K series chip is super easy - you change change the multiplier, and increase the volts slightly when the PC crashes/hangs/bluescreens :p

Okay that's not a problem, but is 2500k worth the 50 pound more at this point, when I've never overclocked before? Also, is it advisable to go for a phenom X4, as from all the benchmarks I've seen the 2400 outperforms it quite substantially?

Keep what your thinking of getting, have added a few alternatives above, but its small change.

Hmm I see what you mean, and I kinda like the look of the RipjawX ram, shiny and red :) I guess thats what I'll get then, last question; is it hard to overclock the non K series CPUs? Is the procedure different? Thanks for all your help!

Yeah, i's so its worth £50 more

KK thanks man, but is hard to OC the i5 2400?

Hard? Its impossible.

Intels way of conning enthusiasts into paying through their teeth.

You can only overclock none K series chips with the FSB - and every 1155 board can only increase FSB by 2-3.

EDIT: Just saw you have a Antec 100 has your case - you could save £20 by changing it to a Xigamatek Asgard - still a decent case.

Oh right...damn I may have to consider getting the i5 2500k then, thats another 50 quid out of savings account :( Although on some website reviews, they have somehow managed to OC a i5 2400 to something like 3.7 to 3.9 ghz, I don't see how that's possible from what you guys are telling me tho? Also Cookeh, I quite like the look of the antec 100 and plan on installing red LED xigmatek fans on the front, because I'm like that haha :) How good is the Asgard?

Obviously there are reasons its cheaper - but it'll house your stuff, keep them cool. Cable management will be a bit trickier, and there are less fan mounts. But, saves you some monies :p

Ah fair enough, I do like to have more monies :) But then again, I do prefer the look of the Antec 100, and in the future when I want to upgrade my graphics card it seems to have enough room to fit a 5970, so I should be set :)

If you do upgrade later, you won't be upgrading to a card that's already last gen :p
