I've got an xfx 5850 (older reference style cooler). How can I get at it to give it a clean? I've got a pretty hefty overclock on it so want to keep it nice and cool. I don't want to break it by trying to get the shroud off some cack-handed way lol.

I took apart my XFX 8800gts for cleaning after I had some issues with it. Are there any screws holding in the cover? Mine had 4 screws holding it down and once they were out, the cover just popped off. Be sure that you work on a non conductive surface and that you have earthed yourself just in case! Try not to touch the solder joints. Good Luck!

I took my HD4890 vapor-x apart after 12 months of use. It had 4 little screws at the corners of the plastic part of the custom heatsink, which once removed allowed the plastic assembly to be removed exposing the fan and heatsink itself. I used a kids paintbrush to remove the dust accumulated on the heatsink and put it back together. It dropped my temps by 15 degrees. Five minutes work, that's all. Not sure about the traditional types of blower fan units though.
