Well despite my ridiculously small motoring budget I got thoroughly stitched up today.

My girlfriend was on the school run and managed to get a puncture. Luckily it was outside a garage so they changed it for the space saver. On getting home the other front tyre deflated and we discovered large chunks of brown glass in them.

I was late for hospital so I had to grab a lift with my mate. When I had my own business I use to use a very well known mobile fitting service which was perfect as the car was now not drive able.

She phoned me and said they had quoted her £130 for two Michelin's (its a compact SUV with H rating tyre's). Seemed like a very good deal but I was suspicious so got her to double check price and make. She knows bugger all about tyre's but confirmed the price was right and they where Michelin Primacy's and their mid-range tyres.

Got home tonight to find some carp called Kormoran Runpro B2 on them. I phoned they fitters and got some young bod who claimed they are made by Michelin. From my research Michelin own a small stake in these ditch finder pro's. What do you reckon contact trading standards? These were completely mis-sold and actually cost less then their economy tyres!!!

The road noise is horrible and I just don't feel safe driving it.

Absolutely mis-sold - it doesnt matter who owns the parent company it is NOT a Michelin tyre and should never have been sold as one.

Whats the size?

Size is 205/60/16 H 92. It has Yokohama's on it which have lasted well and according to their website would cost £6.00 extra in total. Totally gutted. I know it is only tyres but I do take safety into high consideration.

They are not just tyres at all and you are completely right to take safety into high consideration. I would take the car back and demand they are removed at the tyre depots expense.

The only issue though is that if they were Michelin's (An 'Energy' in this size), they would have cost over £200 and still not been all that great. It seems decent tyres in this size are rather expensive - a Conti Premium Contact is about £110ish fitted.

Dont be gutted they mis-sold the tryres. You have paid for two Michelins and did not get them. They should fit the tyre they actually sold for no extra or at least refund the full cost. What they have done is illegal and i,m sure trading standards would side with you if it comes to that.

Yokohama's which were the factory fit come out at £69 something. The car was great on them and has done 30k on the rear and 20k on the fronts. I have had it from new.

It's a Fiat Sedici 1.9 JTDM Eleganza which is exactly the same car as the Suzuki SX4 4 Motion. Built in the same factory etc.

They will probably get away with it as it was a telephone quote. Just couldn't have hit me at a worse time.

I am off work after having an operation. I have lost 30% of the bone in my left foot and am going to lose about 35% in my right next month. I live on £65.45 a week plus £20 disability living allowance. I know this makes me a scrounger in most peoples books but I have worked solidly paying taxes for the last 18 years.

It doesnt make you a scrounger in anyones book. Infact it's pretty outrageous you end up with little more than unemployed morons who've never held down a job despite paying into the system for nearly 2 decades and not working through no fault of your own.

Cheers for looking at it in that way. But I still have to be counted with the rest of them.

I think your stuck with the tyres, sorry to hear about the foot.

What car do you drive and how fast do you drive it? My Octavia vRS with Conti-Sport contact 3s are a total waste on the 3 mile sub 30mph Morrisons run and commute.

(I use a van for work)

Can I get a facepalm please?

? True though, a Buggatti Veyron would still have to undertake the same task as this is the reason my wife has the car.
Not everyone needs a Ferrari to fill the role of transport.

I was asking OP how he used the car, he states it was a SUV not a Lotus Elise.

I guess aquaplaning is acceptable as long as you don't go too fast and when you need to stop in a hurry I guess as long as you're careful you don't have to worry about the extra stopping distance. OP don't worry, tyres is tyres says the man above, it's an MPV not a GT3 racer LOL!

My point is not everyone needs top end tyres, My wife drives too slow to drive Miss Daisy. (I think they call it a speed limit)
