I have checked every related thread from about 6 months or so back but nothing is relevant enough so i hope its ok to start a new thread.

I have a i7 920 C0 and want to overclock it to 3.8ghz as from what i have read it is quite difficult to bring one to 4ghz, my case is a coolermaster haf 932 and my current heatsink is a titan fenrir evo. However i have had a lot of trouble and disappointment with the fenrir so am selling it to a friend and looking for a replacement,

Before i followed advice to disable Turbo and C1, eist i had temps of 65,61,61,57
core voltage 1.200v
core speed 2833.6Mhz
Multiplier x 21

after i had :
core voltage : 1.120V
core speed : 2698.7 Mhz
multiplier x20

and load temps of 57,50,53,53

however the idea for me lowering my temps was to prepare to overclock so underclocking the cpu by turning off the 21x multiplier wasnt what i was aiming for.

thanks for any help you can provide.

Prolimatech Megahalem, cannot go wrong. Big but not too big and has plenty of heat dissapation. Comes with brackets to fit push/pull configs. Doesn't include any fans tho.

I have read about the megahalems and have been very impressed, i have a noctua sb12 (?) which i bought to replace my faulty fenrir fan so i would hopefully only need to buy another.

My other choices are :
Coolermaster V8
Corsair h50
Noctua NH C12P
Noctua NH-U12P SE2
Noctua NH-D14
Zalman CNPS9900
Coolermaster V6
Corsair A70

I know its quite a list to choose from but they have all received high reviews and its been driving me mad, i like the look of the V8 but i have heard it is not worth the cost.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

after a lot more reading i have narrowed it down to :

megahalem
thermaltake frio
Corsair H50
Noctua u12P / U9b (haven't a clue what the difference is save form the fan speeds)
Noctua C12p

i followed the link in your sig Helios1234 and based my decisions mostly on the temp table in the article. I just realised how much the NHD14 costs and i dont think i can go that high.

Good place to start! Check out the Thermalrights though such as the Cogage Arrow, Silver Arrow, Venomous X or Archon. Unfortunately OCUK don't sell them :( but they are excellent coolers and cheaper than the NH-D14.

The Corsair H50 is not comparable to a good air cooler and will end up quite loud.

The NH-U12P is a fairly old design now and gets beaten by newer, and much cheaper coolers.

The C12P is decent but only if you are limited for space and require a top down cooler. Otherwise a tower cooler will be much better.

The Thermaltake Frio is pretty good for its price so it's worth considering. It's a shame I can't message you via trust because I have some coolers you may have been interested in.

I have been looking at all these Cogage Arrow, Silver Arrow, Venomous X , Archon and the NH-D14 the trouble is stock and price difference can be around £5 for some of them makes it a hard choice.

as i cant find anywhere that sells any of the newer thermalrights i have narrowed the list again:
megahalem
thermaltake frio
Venomous X
Noctua DH14 (realised that this costs about the same as the megahalem after the fans are bought.)

any more advice to help me cut a few more off the list :)

Use a well known search engine, trust me you will find.

Good to hear that Ace Modder, quite like the specs of the Thermalright archon, seems to be a great cooler.

ok i didnt realise that the silver arrow hadn't been released yet so its just the venomous x which i assume is the best thermalright out at the moment.

so same list as before :)

silver arrow has been released for ages, just not many stock it, and the only UK one that does, which we can't name for obvious reasons, never has stock for long when it does lol.

But it is good news that OCuk are finally getting the top coolers in, i hated having to get my VX else where.

The Silver Arrow was released back in August last year. I had one of the first samples actually but it is quite rare. If you can't get hold of the Silver Arrow, the Cogage Arrow is pretty much the same thing with a single fan. The VX is also very good though. Between the two, I'd get the cheapest.

well now im really confused as the other has Pre Order Item
Item currently awaiting an ETA. I will look into cogage , do these beat the D14 ,megahalem and the frio then ?

It will definitely beat the Frio and Megahalem but you would need to attach another fan for it to beat the Noctua, although the difference would be quite small.

On this review, have a look at the results for the Silver Arrow + 1xTR TY-140 and that should give you an indication as to how the Cogage arrow performs. Considering it's around £40, it's a bargain.

Just for reference, Cogage is Thermalright's "Daughter company" and their Silver Arrow is a refined version of the Cogage Arrow with two 140mm fans instead.

How are you finding the VX mate?
