16gb Sandybridge for overclocking

Hi,

Wanted to build a 16gb 2600k Sandybridge system using 2x4gb sticks for now and adding 2x4gb in future.

I also want to be able to achieve a stable 4.6ghz overclock with either configuration. Is this possible with all 4 banks filled? Has anybody tried this?

Advice and experience welcomed.

Simple question, why on earth would you need 16GB?

Even for video encoding 8Gb is more than enough.

8gb is definitely not more than enough for video EDITING! (unfortunately)

No problems getting to 4.6GHz on my 2500K with 16GB.

Because video encoding isn't the most RAM hungry application out there. I run virtual machines on my PC and easily eat through 12GB.

Asus P8P7 (standard) and 4x 4GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHz 9-9-9-24 1.65V (they run nicely at 1.5V).

Have run 4.8ghz stable with all 4 banks populated 4x2gb

When i'm re-encoding a blu ray, my RAM usage can hit 15.5GB

It's definitely being used, and it's brought my re-encode time down quite considerably

ud be fine i think, maybe if your trying to run the 2000+mhz ram then you might have issues, but ramspeed gives tiny performance increase anyways.

go for low voltage and big heatsinks if u can, as denesly packed sticks can cook

1600mhz speed is normaly the pricing sweet spot
