Hi guys,

Some of you proved invaluable when I planned my California trip, so I thought I'd canvas for ideas for this years trip.

Shortlist is down to two trip ideas.

a) Miami, Florida Keys, then a flight to Washington DC, drive to NYC, fly home

b) Road trip from NYC to Canada via Niagra, Toronto, etc.

That is pretty much as far as I've got. I'm aware of the main cities I can visit but not really of what else is around in the areas I've chosen, what sort of scenery, that sort of thing. I have preconceptions of Florida being a bit...full of irritating English tourists. I have this idea it's like an American Benidorm. Maybe I should prove myself wrong?

So..

Which trip would you choose and why? Anything unmissable on either one? Not really bothered about theme parks.

Time of year is probably September. I'm aware that might be an interesting time to visit Florida... :D

I'd do the Miami one, but the trip from America to Canada sounds even more interesting. Miami is nice, you'd probably like it.

They are both great trips imo, I'd head for the sun first from my circumstances

Skip DC, honestly besides a few historic buildings (let's be honest they are not very 'histroic') there is not much to see there.
FL - great place, loads to do and see and weather will be nice. There will be lots of tourists there and LOADS of Americans on their holidays. Miami you will certainly enjoy, but check out lots of surrounding areas. Road trip to Destin maybe?
NY - Great place, 3days max
Canada - ? Vancouver is probably the only place worth visiting unless you are going boarding :p oh but be sure to see Niagra from the Canadian side ;)

Canada sounds the more interesting, maybe I would pick a differently starting point though as I didn't particularly enjoy NY

Be a Man! If weather is concerning you then do the Canada trip. TBH Flordia should be visited when it's summer. It looks so much nicer, if the weather sucked, it would ruin the whole trip.

The weather will be fine in September, Hurricane season and all that :p but seriously it will be fine. It's at the tail end of the summer so won't be so hot and yes it will rain, usually around 3pm for 30mins.

I'd do both - toss a coin and do one this year and other next year. The weather in September is usually ok but it can turn for the worst.

Having never been to Canada that's what I'd choose. Though I rather enjoyed Miami (great night life :)). Florida isn't my kinda place - but it's popular for tourism and holidays as it has a lot of parks and attractions.

NYC rocks IMO - I love the place.

I'd personally go for option b. Purely for the fact that I'd like to see Canada and I love NYC! :D

Not very helpful I'm sure...

Personally, I'd do Canada, because I'd far rather be out in the open with stunning scenery flying past my face, than stuck in queues of annoying tourists all day.

Are you limited to these two options or can you consider other destinations?

I drove from Toronto down to Niagra and Buffalo. Toronto was a cool (but quiet) city and the drive to Niagra was a bit meh. I'm glad I did it but I wouldn't hurry to do it again.

I think it's probably going to be one of these two (I don't have sole say in the matter!), but if there is somewhere so incredible I'd be mad to miss it, perhaps it can go on the shortlist. I would like to include New York in whichever trip we do, though :)

Just going to throw in my experience into the pot. I've never been to Florida so I can't comment on that.

I've been to Canada before, specifically Toronto, Niagra and bits of New York State (travelled into USA, ofc). Great country, great people! It was probably one of the best holidays I've ever been on. Toronto is great, loads to see and do like any capital city. Niagra is pretty damn awesome with lots to see and do.

You will do well with either though, to be honest. Wouldn't mind going back myself at some point!

I'd really love to see Miami and the keys although I'm not sure I'd want to do DC and NYC in the same trip, I'd prefer to relax a bit than keep moving around.

I prefered DC over NYC although I enjoyed visiting the likes of the Whitehouse, FBI building, museums and so on.

Niagra was a bit tacky although glad I went and would like to have seen more of Canada but other than the scenery I don't know off hand what else would attract me.

Out of your 2 choices I'll pick the Miami and keys sans DC & NYC.
