Know if MT sportsman tyres are road legal over here?
They are 7-8mm tread depth new, i dont seem to be able to find anything saying they are not as long as they're under the arches.

cheers

As long as they comply to the C&U regulations regarding construction and marking they are legal. They won't be e-marked, but that's not a problem unless they are specifically marked "Not for road use" etc.

You can carefully shave "not for road use" off the sidewall if you are feeling naughty. Or have a set of "MOT tyres" on another set of wheels.

The thing is not the MOT.

The thing is of you get checked up on following an accident and are deemed to be in an unroadworthy car.

As Mr Dogbreath says the rules for USING tyres are far less strict than those on SELLING tyres. All the E marked and all that stuff applies to SALE of tyres not USE and construction & Use plus the Road Traffic Act are what you need to comply with.

I know a lot of people use Sportsmans on the road as regular use tyres. Never been a problem that I know of. Quicktime Pro or similar stuff which is "street tyre" in the USA but doesn't comply with UK regs for tread coverage will be a problem.

Now what is it you are driving that you are looking at these tyres? That is the interesting question...

cheers guys, ive had them recommended to me actually.
I have a ram dually and the guys on the ram forums recommend swapping the 4 rear tyres/rims for 1 big one each side for ebtter traction (and 2 big Mt's are cheaper than 4 lol)

its a 6.7 cummins diesel 550hp 1300ft/lb torque.
still pulls 25mpg average too :) . quick and cheaper than a petrol v8 :)

When I lived in Cardiff a guy who lived around the corner from me had one, it was huge, it had more road presence than a bus. It looked awesome

Bit of a thread steal but saves having 2 MOT threads.

Would a car pass its MOT with a doughnut style spare wheel on?

By "Donut" I suspect you mean "space saver". In which case I think not as tyre size and type must match across the same axle.

Back to the OP.

Nice soundin truck! Be aware that the Micky Thompson Sportsman and similar tyres tend to have very short lifespans because of the very soft compound they are made in which in turn allows for the superior traction. People I know tend to use them on weekend / low mileage types of car. No reason not to use them on a daily except for tyre wear may be more than you expect.

How much do you use the truck? (I'd never be out of it LOL)

Just checked and it does seem to be not tested now :O

well thats odd as last years MOT was a failure due to "Insufficient Tread on Spare Wheel"

There is no such way of failing a car - you have to select any failures via drop-down lists - you cannot make up your own.

I think this was probably a tester-inputted advisory item. Check it online

If you check my edit and my 2nd reply you will see i corrected it, just going by what i had on my red failure sheet from last year :P
