If i can see people on my friends list, mentioning no names, using homebrew stuff then so can Sony. All this info is passed to Sony at startup sony accounts can and i expect will be banned when Sony start with the ban hammer.

Depends on what they do, could just ban the user so all trophies and info have gone, can even use the kill switch to disable the conolse completely. Most likely they can use the console ID and MAC to disable its online services so no more access to PSN, prob let them use the PSN store though lol. Until we know what is going to happen dont think there is away to second guess what they are going to do.
Don't PS3's have a unique ID? Even the Xbox one did, and if you went on live with anything but a legit BIOS, you were banned almost instantly.
The only way around it was to buy another Xbox, or the EEPROM data from a none banned Xbox.
mate in work has just decided to get rid of his PS3 over this crap, its an absolute shambles and the people hacking them are just ruining everything for everybody but themselves, selfish as hell of course! but the point is, sony should have the power to actual render the console useless if it is taking part in any such activities, a killswitch built into the hardware, someone uses non-legit code = console turned into shiny paper weight. have the killswitch built into the actual hardware itself, i.e. not moddable and that'll stop the scumbags, you could get wrong legally for hacking right? i.e. its against the law? give them a large fine for breaching terms of use, some people just shouldn't be allowed to own hardware since they just abuse it for their own purposes.
me mate is a big call of duty fan as well, so one of the only games he plays on his PS3 is basically unplayable, and i thought hacking on the xbox 360 was bad, nothing compared to the joke that is the PS3, least people don't fly around on the 360 or anything like that, still irritating though!

The sooner the game is a monthly fee the better. Imagine the pressure put on Sony right now if COD was a pay per play game. Any time these girls made modded lobbies and started ruining the game you could just stop feeding them money.
I do find it hilarious that the people off these forums so active in ruining games on the 360 MW2 modding cheat games have now gone running to the PS3 version of Black Ops despite the crap fest Treyarch served up to ps3 users all of a sudden they decide that's a better version to play.

to be honest, black ops is dodgy at best, looks pretty weird on xbox 360 as well, for example some of the bushes look like cuboids with foliage painted on, its that bad!

yeah on the ps3 i could be hiding behing a box and one of my team would like push me out and get me killed there was a few times were i felt like launching it down the stairs

PSN never had a pan to go down! It's a lame excuse of an online system but then the pad isnt designed to play games so it's no loss!
So PS3 for singstar and Driving games and 360 for everything else, hang on its always been that way!!!

annoying thing though is the PS3 is a lovely system, its nice and quiet (mines almost silent, compared to my vacuum 360), they look nicely presented, they have no external power brick, blu-ray, built in wi-fi as standard, etc. shame this sort of thing has basically screwed them over..!
