One of the joys of living an old townhouse is having small rodents living in the walls. I've had the pest control people out who put down some bait, that's done the trick, but now have the most putrid smell going on.

I have bought a few odor eliminators and used vinegar over night. It's in the wall somewhere so cannot get to it.

Anyone know how long it will take for the smell to dissipate?

Keep an eye on the water tank in the attic, the poison gives the little creatures an insatiable thirst and it isn't uncommon for them to go for a "dip".

We bought a house that we did up and sold and when we were checking everything over up in the loft there was a massive dead rat in the water tank. Was pretty horrible!

Did you have any water while you were doing up this house?

Had a dead rat in a cavity a while ago , took about a month or two before the smell went completely

HaHa, serves you right you cruel SOD!!
Whenever we get visitors we simply put down our cheap HUMANE ebay trap (£2) and release the little fellas in a field a good distance away.
Works every time, quick, simple, effective and NO rancid smell of poor mouse'e rotting away after a pretty horrendous, cruel and completely unnecessary death!

I use the good old fashions ones that come smashing down on them, just as effective and no smell too :D

My old dog was remarkably talented at finding and killing any rodents that found themselves under our floorboards. She'd know when they were under there straight away too.
