Hi,

Well... this is kind of strange as I've been around to the bed shops and they're all ridiculously expensive - we're talking half price sales and they want £1500+ for one.

The size is Super King by the way.

I found one in Bensons Beds which was called Avante (or Advante) which was £979 but can't find it on there website. The other one, even though it was more expensive I didn't like as much, was from Dreams called Monarchy at £1599. Again I'm not paying that much.

Does anyone know anywhere where you can get a good, preferably soft, mattress from for a reasonable price?

Thanks,

M.

A good super king costs money.

Recently bought a Sealy Platinum Posturepaedic super king - £1250, but its amazing...

The average person spends 56hrs a week in bed thats 220+hours a month, why on earth would skip on it? in fact it makes sence that your bed costs more then your car. £3,000 on bed was one my best purchases IMO

Good mattress is a god send, you will be on it for a long time over the next 5-10 years, pay for something that will last and be comfortable.

You cannot buy a mattress online if you have not even tried it, you would be mad to.

Also, if the cost of a mattress is a problem, maybe look at getting a smaller bed, you are looking for HUGE mattress which will cost money for something good.

I hate the whole mattress selling game. It's one of those markets where resellers rebadge their mattresses to such an extent that it's almost impossible to compare different mattresses from different sellers.

Then there's the garbage relating to sprung mattresses/pocket sprung mattresses/different types of filling/different types of memory foam/numbers of springs/quality of covering.....every salesman will tell a different story, which surprise, surprise paints their competitor in a poor light.

We were looking for a new mattress, but gave up because we couldn't get any honest advice. We just swapped the mattress in the spare room for ours. Not really problem solved, but problem put off for a few more years.

Rant over.

It's not a problem per say I wanted advice on where I could get a mattress that is good value for money rather than a cheap mattress. I think spending £1500 on a mattress is a huge amount of money which could be spent on better things. Yes I appreciate we spend a lot of time in bed and a good mattress is a great purchase but I don't see value for money.

As said by another poster the rebaging (i.e. each store has it's own name even if the mattress is the same) is a nightmare - I found two mattresses which were nigh on identical apart from the name and the price difference was massive.

I found the mattresses I liked in store and if I can't find them cheaper online I'll end up getting them though I would like to thank the people that have posted links - I'll definitely look into it. Also distance selling should make the mattress easy to return should it not be up to par.

Avoid dreams and other such large retailers they are heavily marked up. Look online far cheaper for the same youd find at dreams etc.

Find one which is pocket sprung (generally more springs = better) then double sided with memory foam ~2 inches is comfy.

Trying one out is usually key in this as different foams can be stiffer or softer than others. Try a few out, find a brand you like and buy it cheaper online :P

Looking at that now - would you say it was soft or firm - finding mixed reviews. If it's soft then I'm having it!

We bought our's from Paul Simon, it was called a Rest Assured Concerto 2000, we lay on it, and it was easily the most comfortable thing I have ever been on.

http://www.paulsimon.co.uk/Concerto-2000-Super-King-Size-Mattress-p1002.html

Any subsequent mattress we lay on felt crap by comparison, even those more expensive.

The top foam layer makes for a nice soft, comfy feel, and the pocket-sprung bit underneath keeps your body even without any sagging.

Go see if you can find a Paul Simon with one and test it yourself. :)

We paid £400 for our double from Paul Simon as part of the Blue Ribbon sale, wish I had seen it could be had cheaper online, doh.

Just so you know if a bed shop says theirs a sale on don't believe it as almost all bed shops have a "sale" on. Also shops will often say its the last one or it "should be" priced so so meaning they make you think damn that's a bargain.

Avoid dreams.

This deffo.

Did some shopping around a few weeks ago and was about to pull the trigger on a £2000 bed and got the headboard thrown in for free.

Sat down to sort out the details and was then advised of a 10 - 12 week delivery time.

They swiftly got the middle finger and I went to a local retailer and got pretty much the same bed for £1100. It was delivered last week.

Ugh...Dreams is ridiculously expensive, and for no reason....

I cant remember but theres another bed/furniture type store, cant for the life of me remember what its called though :(
