So with (only) five months to go until we could see the next gen iPhone I figured it'd be interesting to see what people would like to see from the next iteration of the iPhone and also collect all the latest news/rumours.

Main rumours at the minute seem to be bigger screen, multi-core processor and potentially 4G.

I'd be quite happy just to have more storage space and a bit more user control (lock screen etc.).

What do people want/hope to see?

No chance for 4G. Why? 3G was practically standard and Apple still release a 2G iPhone.

Screen size? Er, can't see that happening, unless they keep the same res, otherwise all these apps have to be adjusted, again. And it wont be retina if it's bigger with the same res.

New chip i can picture.

Fix that aerial issue guaranteed.

More space, 64G? Possible.

4G
More Storage

I guess to be picky .. 1080p video recording :p
and better camera.

Has anyone seen any articles relating to it.

Sounds like we're in for another 'S' model if that's all they'd upgrade :(

Won't be a bigger screen due to the current apps, and they probably won't include 4G because it's not used in many places yet.

I can see it carrying a new, faster chip & more RAM. Fixing the aerial issues. Come in Black/White and possibly other colours. And come in 32GB and 64GB models.

You sound shocked lol

It happened before so it's likely to happen again.

Apple are never really on the cutting edge of technology, they are good at design and integrating EXISTING technology. Hence 4G being it's infancy is a pipe dream. The camera took 3 generations to match my old Nokia N95 too.

Then again....I didn't see the retina display upcoming.

I also don't see many people with iPhone 4 upgrading to iPhone 5 / 4s.

The iPhone 4 is a fantastic phone and it would have to be a HUGE HUGE HUGE leap in technology or design for me to upgrade to the next revision. I held off getting the 3GS as it was a rip-off - and that paid off.

It could have HSPA+, which T-Mobile USA is advertising as 4G. :S

I think the rest of the spec is pretty much a given: new custom Apple dual-core chip based on the ARM Cortex-A9 design, dual-core SGX543 and probably more RAM. I wouldn't be surprised if it had NFC included too.

However, this is all 5 months away. No point getting too excited yet.

I reckon you all pretty much have it spot on.

Antenna issue resolved and the faster processor, bigger memory and possibly the introduction of a NFC chip?.
Wireless syncing, and wireless tethering (looks likely this will be in iOS 4.3)
Mini USB port for charging to which in the EU Apple signed up for so a universal phone charger can be used.

I guess come june we will know.

well what do you propose ? they arent going to make it bigger with a big sreen and they arent going to make any changes that could damage backwards compatibility

isnt much more they could do to improve it really

Wireless syncing

These won't happen.

Apple have repeatedly said that they will only sync by USB due to the fact that people could be syncing 32gb (possibly more if we get a storage increase) at a time and not everyone has a decent wireless network.

And there's no way there'll be a micro USB port as they've created a micro USB adaptor (which you have to buy extra) for their normal connection which is ruled by the EU as complying with that initiative.

The wireless tethering though is pretty much a definate, been mentioned on several rumour sites now.

I stand corrected sir, reading more into the charging adaptor ins and outs!.
Still could see a wireless sync in the future......long term future that is! lol

What I want to know is... What will it look like?!

Will it take the same shape as the current iPhone 4? or Will they go in a totally different direction?

Discuss. :p

Lol, tbh I did think it was a bit of a cop out by them really. But I guess they've kinda locked themselves into using the crazy connector they do because it's been in all of their mobile devices from the word go.

Would love to see wireless sync happen, but like you say, probably won't be for a while!

Screen size/resolution increase may well be likely as a lot of the rumours about the iPad 2 have been about a doubling in resolution.

Head over to mac rumours as that's where I hear most of this stuff :)

I expect it to be more or less the same et al the 3g and 3gs.

A white version for sure will arrive and as with the US version on Verizon the antenna relocated after lastyears 'antennagate'.

Would love to see a red version as per the special edition nanos a few years back?.
