Hi all,

Just got a new sound card today. Asus Xonar to boost my audio. Having some problems installing. I can't see on my mobo where it would go as I can't seem to get it to fit. Probably a really amateur mistake!

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Should go in one of the white (PCI) slots, probably the bottom one is the best idea so the graphics card can get air to it.

LOL, confused now, one for the blue slot and one for the white one?

I have tried both but I am scared to put to much pressure on it trying to get it in.

Appreciate the replies.

Thanks,
Tom

Have tried to plug it into the blue slot again but the first gold plated connector is too big for the first section of the blue slot if that makes sense?

It will only go in a white slot; these are PCI slots and this is a PCI sound card.

The blue slots are PCI-E slots; you can tell from the retention clip.

Yeah it does look like the white slot. Can get the back in fine it's the front that does not seem to go all the way in. I have removed the backing plate for that slot too.

I have been supplied with a metal bracket and two screws. I presume these are needed but I can't see how?

Getting both ends in is sometimes a challenge because the motherboard may not fit up against the case brilliantly. You just have to be fairly firm with it; yes, it's a little risky, but once it's in, it'll be secure.

I expect the metal bracket might be a low profile bracket for the card, so it can fit into a smaller form factor case.

Definately white slot put the front in first and push firmly but not too firm on the back and it should slot in. you have 2 white slots so try them both if you struggle with one of them.

The bracket that is on the card in the pic is the one you need. The extra bracket supplied is not needed. ( this is a low profile bracket for a low profile case)

Fit it to one of the white PCI slots as this card is also PCI

Thanks for all your help guys. I have managed to get it in (with effort) and it is working fine. Definitely a difference to on board sound!

Got a couple of quick questions though.

I have my TV hooked up via HDMI to my graphics card, will the sound still come through even though I have installed a new sound card?

I also have headphone and microphone ports on the front of my computer, will these need to go into the new sound card or are they ok on left on the MOBO?

Cheers,
Tom

I can't believe so many people said the blue slot tbh!! That's clearly a PCIe slot (lower, divider towards the edge of the case, retention clip)
