NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Review Thread

Nice one m8 dont want to be damaging one of them shiny new cards , done much gaming with them crysis etc ???

I dont play FPS games so no Crysis or Metro for me lol. I dont like FPS games.

I'll resume playing Anno 1404, Torchlight, and Guildwars soon .... I played Anno for 55 hours in the first week I had it, weened myself off and am too scared to start it again while I am unhooked.

And maybe minesweeper + solitaire too!

My PC cries at how underused it is :(

I just like upgrading. 3850, 4850s, 4870s, 5770s, GTX 460s, GTX 560s .... two of each and only one 4870 has died so far =D

<--- Insane and should be in an asylum. I could have skipped the 4870s and GTX 460s out of all of those and wish I had done now :(

4850s to 4870s does indeed look like an upgrade that wasn't essential :D

Yup, I had Powercolor Zerotherm cooled 4850s, bought for £125 or something, sold for £120, so thats why I got the 4870s. It started with the 3850s because I found them at £69.99 each. That was a great buy, as were the 4850s and 5770s.

The 4870s were horrid. Too hot and my previous PSU didnt have enough cables so needed lots of splitters. Top card was artifacting lots at stock speeds, with triple digit temps and burnt out :x

Crossfire 4870s, biggest ever mistake. Buying the GTX 460s for £182 was another as they were £149 a few weeks later :(

Also the reference cooled 5770s werent so great in terms of temps and noise at 1 Ghz, I much prefered all the custom cooled cards I have had, Zerotherm 3850s and 4850s, and the MSI coolers.

You've got a long way to go yet, it's a slippery slope for the GPU collector. I've only just managed to break free of the habit after:

Trident 512K
Cirrus Logic 1MB
S3 Virge 4MB
S3 Virge 8MB
Matrox Millenium G200 8MB (was crap, so went straight back and got)
Diamond nVidia Riva 128ZX 4MB (with a...)
Diamond Monster Voodoo 4MB (awesome)
Creative Voodoo Banshee 16MB
Voodoo 3 2000 16MB
Hercules GeForce 2MX 32MB
Inno3d GeForce 2 Pro 64MB
ATi 8500LE 64MB (drivers were utter crap so)
GeForce 3 Ti200 64MB
Creative GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB
Powercolor ATi 9000Pro 64MB
Sapphire ATi 9500Pro 128MB
nVidia FX5800 Ultra 128MB
Sapphire ATi 9600Pro 128MB
ASUS ATi 9600XT 128MB (was a monster overclocker)
MSI GeForce FX5900 XT (as they were flashing to FX5950 Ultra's! Was a bag of turd though)
Powercolor 9800 Non-Pro 128MB (flashed to Pro)
Club3d X800 Pro 256MB (flashed to XT, most expensive card I have ever bought @ £280)
Sapphire X850 XTX 256MB
nVidia 7800GT 256MB
nVidia 7800GT 256MB (in SLi, awesome setup)
ATi X1900XTX 512MB
nVidia 8800GTS 640MB
nVidia 8800GTX 768MB
ATi 3870X2 1GB (but was too loud, and driver issues)
HIS 3870 512MB (for Tri-Fire, but was terrible due to drivers)
nVidia 8800GTX 768MB (which I sold for a big profit)
nVidia 8800GTS 512MB
nVidia 9800GTX 512MB
ATi HD4850 512MB
ATi HD4850 512MB (in crossfire, great setup)
EVGA GTX260 896MB (sold before price drops, then rebought cheaper)
Gainward GTX260 896MB
ATi HD5770 1GB
ATi HD5770 1GB (in crossfire)
ATi HD5770 1GB (Vapor-X, for quietness, and better overclocking)
Palit GTX460 1GB (noisy as hell)
MSI GTX460 1GB Cyclone

:o

I'm now forcing myself NOT to buy the 560... I can hear it's call... "buy me" it whispers to me...

Yea but your a reviewer and you get a lot of those free I reckon? :p

Hmmm, full collection for me:

Ati Mach 64
ATI Rage Fury
Geforce 2 MX
ATI Radeon SDR (first radeon that came out, exchanged the MX for it because I thought it was better, big mistake).
Geforce 3 (sold to friend)
Radeon 9600 (First self bought, Gave to brother)
Radeon 9800 pro (unlocked to XT)
Leadtex Gefore 6800 SLI
Ati X1800 xt
Ati X1900 xtx (X1800 was very quicky sold and replaced)
Trident Ati 3870 (quickly sold for the shiny Zerotherm 3850s)
Club 3D 3850 crossfire
Powercolor 4850 crossfire
Gigabyte 4870 crossfire
Sapphire 5770 crossfire
MSI Cyclone GTX 460 SLI
MSI GTX 560 ti SLI

Ok, darn it, your list is longer :(

Not so many CPUs:

Pentium 100
AMD K6 2 450
Amd Athlon 1400 Mhz
Amd Athlon 3000+ (First self bought, Didnt need this one, but I wanted to ditch AGP as soon as PCI-E and 6800s came out)
Amd Athlon X2 4400+
Intel C2D E8400
I7 920

My first self build was the 3000+ and 6800 SLI, and a couple of upgrade cards before that. My first proper gaming PC was the Athlon 1400 and Geforce 3 which was the last thing my parents bought me after I passed my GCSEs. I'm going to try and keep my I7 920 as long as I can now, CPU upgrades are a pain with needing a new mobo and all that, and dont make as much difference as GPU.

bhavv you have a beast of a system and like you said you dont really use it to its potential  as long as your happy thats all that matters .

Nope all bought... unfortunately... cost me a pretty penny over the years :o

I've stopped buying top end stuff now though, much more fun playing with the mid range stuff and cranking it up. :D

My CPU list is ridiculously long as well, so I won't bore you with that :o

Now back on topic, if MSI / Giga bring out a 2GB card that might break my will and i'll be very temped to swap my 460 for one. :D ;)

can any of the shop staff give us an update on if they plan to stock that 2gb palit card and when it should be available if so

Yea, the MSI and Gigabyte ones are the best ones this time. The Asus cooler is pants, as was shown in the comparison pic against the MSI cooler.

I got the voltage tweak working, but they were unstable at 1 Ghz. So I thought I would try rotating the cards. When opening the case however I realised what the problem was, the whole interior and the top cards heatsink were roasted lol!

So I added a side fan, I managed to get my Zalman clip to fit this time because these cards arent extra height like the Gyclone 460s were:

dsc00767h.jpg

At 900 Mhz, it dropped my Vantage max temps by a whopping 2 degrees :x Down from 71 max to 69, but it might make more improvement when I start overvolting again.
