UFC 126 Thread

If Silva wins I hope he moves to 205, there is nothing left for him at MW after Belfort.

I'd love to see him fight Rua.

This may sound a little odd, but the person I'd most like to see him fight is Couture. If anyone can beat Silva it has to be Couture! (Im a dreamer I know :)). I'd also really love to see a Silva vs Jon Jones or Silva vs Bader match.

Bader fought and beat Vinny Maghalaes, whose Jiu jitsu is arguably better than Silvas. And if Sonnen can do that to Silva, I'd love to see what Bader could do.

I wouldn't say Vinny's jits is arguably better, id say it is definitely better. He has won many medals for grappling and competed at the top level.

Saying that it is MMA which changes things quite considerably. I agree Silva vs Bader would be cool to see.

Another person I think could pose problems for him would be Jake Shields, I know it could turn into another Maia fight, but the difference is Shields can actually wrestle, and has very very nice subs too.

Shame he punches like a girl. If he punches at all that is.

Ill never get the fascination with Couture :D

Anyways, i really hope Silva gets the win, lots of haters of his last few performances but we all know Vitor will bring it and force Silva to fight. Im picking Silva to win by TKO, i'd hazard a guess Vitor will come in flailing and Silva will slip one through, backing him up right away. The first few minutes of the fight are crucial though, depends on how long Silva wants to feel Vitor out before starting.

if belfort doesnt get a KO inside the first 2 mins, i reckon silva will walk this.

Agreed, the reason I would never put anything in Belfort in this fight is that mentally he breaks so very easily.

For anyone wanting to see a gameplan totally thrown out of the window and Vitor's will crushed have a look for Sakuraba/Belfort

His BJJ on TUF was amazing to watch. He just needs to toughen up a bit; like the pundits say he doesnt particularly rise to the challenge after hes taken a punch or two.

I don't think he has the heart for MMA, which isn't a problem for his really as he is such a great grappler he can just carry on with that.

It's funny how lots of great grapplers think they will have the same success in MMA then get punched in the face and realise it's not as simple as they imagined haha.

Yep. This isnt the days of UFC 1 with Royce and co, you cant just walk in with one area and hope to win. James Toney found that out spectacularly :) 3:19 minutes of UFC airtime is all he ever got before being cut ha.

mma is basically street fighting with a couple of rules.

i think a lot of top level guys from a lot of different aspects would get their ass handed to them.

no other sport apart from maybe thai boxing has the same amount of brutality or damage.

thats why you need to be a well rounded fighter, this means rather than being 10/10 in jiu jitsu and 5/10 in everything else, its best to be 9/10 in everything. if you know your opponent is a stand up guy then you know you have to get him to the ground, similarly if you know hes a jiu jitsu guy you know not to take it to the ground.

thats why when you come up against a guy with a good game plan its best to be well rounded to cope with their plan.

silva has no real motive for moving up or down in weight, he should just stay at middleweight and rule, he is 35 after all he doesn't have many fighting years left.

He is a fighter, fighters like to test themselves. Beating the people whom you have already beaten is not testing yourself and is not interesting, you saw what happens when he fights people he completely outclasses, he turns into mess around and annoy the fans Silva.

At 205 there are many tests for him, lots of big wrestlers which from what we have seen from Sonnen is probably the best way to deal with Silva, until you gift him a triangle :/ Sonnen really needs to work on that has like 6 taps to triangles lol.

Agreed. The best I've been him in 4 years was at 205; against Irvin and especially against Griffin - he looked a beast.

He did look amazing against Griffin, but Griffin had the complete wrong gameplan for that fight, he never stood any chance of standing with Silva.

To be honest Dex, I'm just glad it wasnt me trying to devise a gameplan for fighting Anderson :) Speaking of which, I wonder how a Rashbored Evans backed by a Jacksons Camp plan would do against Anderson? We know hes elusive, quick and can KO people.

I think enough people have tried and failed to stand with him, it's all about beating him on the floor whether it's GNP or by submission.

Henderson did well in the first round against Silva, got rocked and then eventually subbed, but he had success in the first on top.

Sonnen had success on top for the whole fight, just he has useless submission defence so eventually got caught.

To be fair these are both olympic wrestlers, so it seems wrestling is going to be key.

I don't think anyone can take on Anderson by standing with him at this moment in time anyway.

Yup. I just hope, as a Silva fan, he has been working non-stop wrestling defence while keeping his striking fresh. Blackhouse have Mark Munoz in their team, so he's not a bad sparring partner!

Also, Jacare is in Blackhouse training for a fight vs Lawler on the 29th January, with Silva for the 5th, so I bet they've been very good against each other.

Man I still remember when Forrest just walked into that Anderson slap to the face and went down to the matt, cried mummy and said I quit.....

Ive never seen any mma fighter leave the ring in such a rush, but I give him props even he amits he was so humilited he just had to get out of there... and that was his worst fight ever which he just wants to forget lol

Anyhow I hope the spider wins simply because when GSP beats Shields in April we let dana setup the dream fight between GSP vs Silva :)

Oh and Bones is gonna win but its gonna he a hard fight for him.

Hmm tempted to half do some mega betting :)

i would be surprised if Forest beat Franklin.
i think Bader could make life difficult for Jon Jones but i don't see him getting the win.
Belfort has amazing hands and Silva is very hard to hit when standing, i think Belforts only chance of winning is by catching Silva and if he doesn't then he will get picked apart or taken to the ground and subbed. im hoping he doesn't catch Silva though as im a big Silva fan.

to win-
Rich Franklin
Jon Jones
Anderson Silva

BJ Penn left the ring quicker when he beat Caol Uno, big difference is he won the fight haha.

Bader will definitely test Jones chin, if he can land a punch past those hugely long arms he has.
