Next Gen Consoles expect 2013

I could write exactly the same thing saying 201X.

No-one really knows other than Sony/MS. Still a nice bit of speculative journalism to get some site hits.

For some reason my gut feeling is still that we'll see a new [console] generation in 2012, 2013," Yerli said to CVG.

for some reason my gut feeling is that we will never see another new console again.does that mean im right?

joke of an article. ms and sony have already said they expect to get another 3/4 years off these machines and most devs are happy with that. god crytek are doing my nut in recently...almost as bad as activision.

I think Cevat's right. I'd like to see new gear by Xmas 2013 at the latest. Even though they may launch new ones then, the old ones won't just disappear overnight so they can still keep 360/PS3 around until 2015 and have the 10 years out of them.

But they are getting old hat now - I'd love to see full 1080p30 on every game (ideally 1080p60), high res textures, proper anti-aliasing, cloud saving, better physics, etc etc. The fact that mobile devices will soon have 1GB of memory means new consoles need at minimum 4GB within a couple of years.

Not going to happen. You won't get 1080p 30 or even 60 because developers will do what they are doing right now, deliberately go below 720 so they can put even more bells and whistles in. They just love sacrificing frames per second and resolution so your gun's a little bit shinier and you're able to see the hairy mole on the back of your space marine's bulging neck.

Well guys, considering windows 8 has been penciled in for January 2013 rough release date, we may indeed see next gen consoles during 2013 as a consequence....

You know update to dx etc....

This is a myth that needs to go away, Direct3D and consoles are not in any way linked at all.

I think MS and Sony will be holding out for as long as possible to hopefully see Digital Media take the thrown over the next 2-3 years and see if its actually feasibly for them to provide games in a digital format/USB stick/SD cards as retail versions.

Well, when a 16GB USB stick can cost just a few quid and have far faster access times, reasonable transfer rates, and the retail price for a game is already £30+, it make sense to dump optical drives and rely entirely on download and memory sticks (like the old NES/megadrive carts).

Well if they make games visually look like Crysis or better at 720p then I'd be happy. I guess if 3D does become the norm then it's going to stick to 720p anyway in order to produce acceptable framerates.

I think this generation of consoles is the first that can last a very long time. They do everything we want of them... let us play online with friends, watch films, play blu-rays, watch on demand tv, play some games in 3D etc...

We've never had it so good.

Realistically an upgrade is going to give a slight graphics bump, but it's nothing like the 8bit > 16bit> 32bit> 64Bit type consoles of the past where the difference was huge.

It may be a hard thing to suggest on a PC forum dedicated to Overclocking computers for gaming, but we don't really need them right now.
